Re: Questions about issues with VLC 3.0.18 on a Pi4

As far as I know, rPI OS ships VLC with a custom video output by default, so probably nobody here can help
Yes, this is correct, see patches here.
@OP - can open an issue against the package here.

Re: Trying to get vlc for RPi4 to use hardware decoding

Thanks for the feedback. I was finally able to get hardware decoding to work on Arch ARM. Doing so required a patched ffmpeg and modified vlc. My draft PKGBUILDs are here in case others happen upon this thread: https://github.com/graysky2/PKGBUILDs/commits/vlc-rpi

Re: Trying to get vlc for RPi4 to use hardware decoding

Thank you for the reply. I booted into RPiOS 11 and as you said, not a single error. Verbose log on RPiOS11 there. However, I do not believe that the warnings are causing this. If I run the same command on my Arch Linux x86_64 box, the file plays back just fine and the verbose log contains a number ...

Trying to get vlc for RPi4 to use hardware decoding

I am compiling VLC on Arch ARM aarch64 using a slightly modified recipe from the current distro default to include the following configure options: --enable-omxil --enable-omxil-vout --enable-rpi-omxil . I managed to get the build to work but the resulting binary is not able to playback an x265 test...

Delays when playing/seeking video content using v2.2.2 under Arch

I am experiencing delays when seeking video content using vlc version 2.2.2-3 under Arch Linux. Is there a good way to debug? I have tried both the official package and also building from git (r6951.g46e250e) but both suffer from the same delays upon seeking. In contrast, using mpv to play the same ...

setting to autorotate iphone video

Is there a setting to read the metadata that iphones write into their videos and then auto rotate during playback? For example, shoot a video on your iphone vertically initially, then still while shooting it, rotate the screen horizontally. Now, play back this video with VLC. Currently, VLC is unawa...

Re: Static audio playback for wmv formatted files

You could, yes
Thanks, I added comment #6 requesting it to be reopened but didn't see any formal way to do it: https://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/8260#comment:6

Re: Static audio playback for wmv formatted files

Works with vlc.git, but not 2.0-git
Yes, I too can verify this. Does that mean that we should re-open bug #8260 since the stable tree should not have this problem?

Re: Static audio playback for wmv formatted files

Use 2.0.6 I have compiled it from git but the audio is still messed-up. The static is gone, but there are horrible echo effects in the audio stream of wmv files. I used the example wmv file posted in my bug report as an example. Here is a video I took of my freshly compiled 2.0.6 from git playing a...

Static audio playback for wmv formatted files

Much like this post , vlc v2.0.5 on Arch Linux cannot properly play wmv files. The audio is basically static although video seems fine. I understand from bug #8260 that the problem is not due to vlc. *I compiled vlc from git and found no change. *I have tried downgrading my ffmpeg package to the poi...

VLC and VDPAU

I've seen a few older threads about this, but nothing relating to the current release. How can one enable VDPAU with HD h264 or mpeg files? Is VDPAU implied under the "Accelerated video output (Overlay)" option? I didn't see a VDPAU option in the "Output" pulldown. Does one need ...

how to screencast desktop capture in 1.0.4 on Linux

I have vlc 1.0.4 on Arch Linux and am trying to use vlc to capture a desktop movie. I've followed some guides to this effect like this one , but I think the dialogs have been updated in 1.0.4 and I can't see to get it working. $ vlc screen:// This brings up a new vlc window but I have no idea how to...
