In Windows, the DirectX api hides the hardware from the vlc, so in theory the hardware does not matter, if it has directx drivers as usually they have. My MSI Digivox II usb stick works fine in vista and xp.

In vista, the vlc ui is a bit buggy but when i copied the command line strings to a .bat file and using the commandline, the server started to work.
