Re: VLC 1.1.0 don't unload when closed under XP

Hi sacharja, Here is how I "solved" the problem for weeks now, because i couldn't stand it anymore : I decided to go back to version 1.0.5 and deleted all 1.1.x versions. At last I don't think of this very annoying bug anymore and with the help of other free players (like MPC - Home Cinema...

Re: VLC 1.1.0 don't unload when closed under XP

But what has changed in the "Click X"-closing mechanism of VLC version 1.1.0 and above (doesn't work) compared to version 1.0.5 and below (worked fine "since ever") which Windows-XP doesn't like at all? A couple of days ago, I asked j-b the same question and his answer was : &qu...

Ok, i understand your position.
By the way, version 1.1.3 has been officially released, but the problem is still there.

Re: VLC 1.1.0 don't unload when closed under XP

@ Xeon2X I tried it your way but it didn't give good results all the time, at least for me : sometimes it closed and sometimes not. Well...if it works for you that's great, though I'm not sure that mixing a 1.1.0 dll with all others 1.1.2 dll's will be the best way to avoid future problems, but as w...

Re: VLC 1.1.0 don't unload when closed under XP

With the new dll, I'm getting mixed results (with either the default or Direct3D video output module). Sometimes it will close immediately, sometimes it will still hang around Hello, Same for me : Direct3D video output module doesn't close Vlc each time (with original dll or new dll) By the way, i ...

Microsoft will help if they are paid =) Well Vlc_help, I see your "smiling smiley" at the end of your answer :D Maybe I'm naive, but honestly I believe in people free help on certain occasions. I'm pretty sure nearly ALL guys at Microsoft have Vlc installed on their PC's (even Bill !) If ...

Re: VLC 1.1.0 don't unload when closed under XP

Problem remains on my computer (XP SP2) : the "X" button doesn't close Vlc 1.1.2, even with that very last dll (note it's exactly the same size as the nightly test dll, i.e. 10 911 744 bytes, but their content is different, as indicates a file compare tool) I wonder if this problem would h...

Hello j-b
Didn't know you also placed the link here.
I tried it carefully (back to 1.1.2), no change : the bug is still there.
(explanations of installation and try already sent to you, before I answer here)

Re: VLC 1.1.0 don't unload when closed under XP

Downgraded to 1.0.5 Goldeneye, not going to complain, it's free after all, great program, thanks to the developers, will wait patiently for fix.
Just did same as you (downgraded from 1.1.2 to 1.0.5) for the same reason.

Re: 1.1.2 ***STILL*** not shutting down properly

Right cake, problem happens only under XP (I got also this very annoying problem) and probably not for all users running XP, which makes the bug harder to fix, especially it closes sometimes and sometimes not (on my PC, running XP) Yesterday I asked j-b if it was possible to automatically keyboard &...

Yes j-b, even after clean install, clean preferences and clean install folder. Open VLC, do nothing and quit with the X doesn't unload it?
Hi j-b,
No, quit with the red X button doesn't unload it, even doing nothing.
The orange Vlc icon stays in system tray and Vlc.exe in Task Manager (Windows XP SP2 - Vlc 1.1.1)

I second that. Thanks Vlc_help for opening a ticket, because it does same for me after following Whistle's instructions to reproduct the bug with any avi file : it crashes too (I'm also on XP) Just an idea...could it be possible this happens only on "old" PC's (mine is P4) ? I remember we ...

Re: vlc.exe won't stop

Bellzemos, we are many users having same problem on Windows XP and I'm confident it will be fixed in next release. Until then, there are 2 workarounds avoiding to stop the process in task manager : 1) Quit Vlc using Ctrl+Q (instead of clicking on the usual red cross button in the upper right corner)...

j-b ? He's always funny and likes to joke, I can assure you he's a very cool person. Some people in this forum (not you !) don't realize how much time it requires to j-b (and other programmers) in this never ending Vlc process : a day has only 24 hours, that's the reason why he can't verbose when he...

Hi Chrisi22 I agree with you, but the TrueCrypt program you mentioned is created for that special "encrypting/hiding" purpose. "TrueCrypt is free open-source disk encryption software for Windows 7/Vista/XP, Mac OS X and Linux. In case an attacker forces you to reveal the password, ......
