OK, then unchecking "Automatically preparse files" does not prevent the files from being automatically preparsed.

Check out the streams referenced from http://www.di.fm/mp3/trance.pls in VLC 8.x default installation. You'll see that the title of the stream is initially displayed, and then later the title of each track in the stream is displayed.

It is this functionality that I'm looking for.

Found the option "Preferences - All - Playlist - Display playlist tree". Is this analogous to the commandline switch you provided? It does result in the desired playlist format, although I had some non-reproducible sorting issues - I sometimes get: + trance.pls + hardstyle.pls + hardcore.p...

If it "should" it doesn't. Remember, with streams there are 3 values available:

Stream URL
Stream Name
Track Name

Currently, there are only 2 variables for Text fields, and they map as so:

$F = Stream URL
$N = Stream Name

I'm looking for the 3rd variable for the Text field.

Note that I have tried de-selecting "Preferences - All - Playlist - Automatically preparse files" and each pls is still requested prior to the music starting.
