I fixed my issue. I uninstalled VLC 2.2.4 x64, installed VLC 2.2.3 x64 then upgraded to VLC 2.2.4 x64 and all is well???

What files? I don't know where the .LOG files are stored

I had to do a Windows10 clean install. Everything was going great as I add all my software back but all of a sunned VLC stopped playing audio and video files. I get the following 2 error messages. Uninstall/reinstall went perfectly but now when I try and apply a skin and browse for the skin file, VLC wants to "save" the file instead of "open" the skin file. What's up with that? I was able to select a skin by cutting and pasting the path and file name into the select a skin...

Can't someone write a small program that would install the key or can't VLC change the installer to include the key. Doesn't sound like rocket science but then I'm not a programer.

I have the same issue. In Win 7 while trying to change the file associations via the programs list VLC does not show in the list. While it is possible to go into the file list and change each file extension, one at a time, that's a very cumbersum process. Why doesn't VLC show in the default programs...

I want to set VLC to play all compatible files in Windows 7 but when I go to control panel\default programs\set your default programs, VLC is not in the programs list and I find no way to "browse" for it. Does anyone have a solution for this?

I changed the audio output setting to Win32 waveOut extension output and the problem seems to be corrected.

I have a slightly different sound problem. If I double click an AVI file, VLC opens and begins to play but there is no sound. If I close VLC and double click the AVI file again and it plays with sound. I tried renaming vlc.exe but the symptoms didn't change. Any ideas?
