I am having the same problem. In fact, choosing the default display for DirectX as my DISPLAY2, which used to automatically put the video window on the correct screen on my old box, doesn't work for me at all. I can manually drag it over, but the next video in the playlist defaults back to DISPLAY1 ...

I had this problem too. I'm pretty sure it's because you have volume leveling on. VLC doesn't analyze each track and level the playback volume across them. It tries to constantly level the sound it produces, eliminating all dynamic range and certainly not what most people (or at least I) would expect.

Was just using default. Now it works brilliantly!

Mission accomplished and working well, though I still think it's a bug that it reverts to the other monitor by default.
