anyway... the skin you downloaded which turned out as a .zip file... could you care to explain what OS/browser you're running? i'm assuming you have some flavor of *nix?

i perfectly understand what's going to happen w/ the panels if the common attributes are set.... (which is why i requested em in the first place :P) however, im thinking beyond just the panels when i asked about the dummy values... e.g. a dummystate which multiple buttons/functions/images can relate...

well in regards to the layouts... im talking about... say the playlist as an example... now currently, you have two choices if you want the playlist to be shown/hidden.... either create a new window... or create a new layout... the latter is inefficient, since it requires that you create the backgro...

i believe it was mentioned somewhere that the "preferences" would be shown in a simplified manner for the next release...

well having a panel visible/invisible is what's needed for skins... otherwise we have to resort to switching layouts, which imho is clunky and rather unappealing to designers and end-users (the layout switching limit w/ videos comes to mind). if that's not possible... then is it possible to add bool...

a dodgy way of fixing this could be (for vlc developers...) to pause the video, obtain the position of the current file, stop the video, and upon resizing the skin, place the video at that position earlier, then play... a dodgy fix... but thats just my 2 cents (AUD) worth.

that's one of the reasons why i didnt implement the layout system in my skin... simply beacause of the video issue. however, having to create a whole new layout just for a single change is rather insane. hence, it would be great if the "Panel" had all the "common attributes"... n...

hmm.. i've had a look @ the panel thing... i reckon we should do away with the group? or perhaps merge the panel w/ the group element, since they're both similiar? anyway... i had a request for the panel thing... perhaps allow the visible attribute for the panel? and for the visible attribute itself...

about time something like this was done

no more need for one big image w/ transparency

If you still don't find any skin you like, why not creating a better one?

well... the decompression is on the client-side i believe... (correct me if im wrong)... and gzip level of 6 (which is the default in php, unless specified otherwise) has the best of both worlds. it's not as cpu-intensive, and look @ the bandwidth saved: (this is copy/paste of the skins.php page ana...

hmm i see you guys arent using any sort of output compression? gzip or deflate-http (zlib) should be implemented in order to compress pages on the fly, so that there's less of a strain on bandwidth... just to give you an example: http://www.gidnetwork.com/tools/gzip-test.php (test the videolan skins...

Yes they look similar (both being WMP11 based), but that skin is not scalable

that's simply because scaling wasn't an option (due to VLC limitations) at that point in time..

anyway... good work... always good to see ppl pushing the boundaries so other features can be added to skins

me thinks the skin might not have been saved properly as .tar.gz

anyway... i can say u should just save it as a .zip, and then rename to .vlt

see if that gives u any errors first.

it's not really a bug... it's more of a limitation... and the developers are aware of it.

i'm assuming ur referring to the issue when... say u have mini mode as an alternate layout.. and u switch between mini and normal... and the video display is not embedded between the switch, when it normally is supposed to be... only when you stop the video and play again is it restored to its embed...

well it shouldnt be that hard... add a dateUpdated variable in the sql table... with the date the skin was updated... and if it's blank... then it hasn't been updated ;)... if there is a date... and the date is the latest... the skin can be on top... signifying it was updated... unless there's a new...

hmm... i think some sort of uploading system is needed... considering that ppl are starting to submit many skins...
