ok i've finally found something useful: it only happens with files that have a built in aspect ratio (like HDV files). Happened with a .wmv as well - the wmv has a native resolution of 720x576 which is being stretched to 16:9 aspect. same with DVD mpeg2 files that have 720x576 (PAL) and are in 16:9 ...

well sure, but this is nothing file specific. happens with all my m2t hdv footage - over 100 hours of material from various cameras and timespans
