I have DVD which I have copied to my HDD, and VLC can't open it. I went to Media/Open Folder, set to VIDEO_TS, and it says this:

DVDRead could not open the disc ""

VLC is unable to open the MRL 'dvd://

Any news about this problem?

P.S. I tested movie on Crystal Player which has sharpening effect, and sharpening functions normally.

Open My Computer, go to Tools, Folder Options, View, check show hidden files and folders and press OK.
Then, from My computer, go to C drive, or where you've installed Win XP, go to documents and settings, (username), application data, and delete VLC folder.

I found what is causing this. Sharpen or "augumented contrast between contours". Which I set to be automaticly on when starting VLC. When sharpen is on, there is flickering about few mm at bottom, and even when Sigma slider is at 0 this flickering stays but ghosting disappeares. When off e...

I tried everything, from changing output module to hardware YUV-RGB....etc. Nothing helps. Even Verbose levels 1 and 2 are not saying anything.

Yeah, I also have that same problem.
Yesterday I've installed 0.9.9 version, and mkv files (not stored in same folder) need around 5-7 seconds to load.

Now I have tested latest 1.0.0 nightlbuild (from: /build/win32/trunk-20090405-2334) but it behaves the same.

Try this:
Tools - Prefrences - Video
On the right you will have Display Device.
I do not have dual monitors, but it should be changable to something like this: Device 1, Device 2 or Device 0, Device 1

So it has to be set on Device 0 or 1 depends how it is written there, save it, and restart VLC.

I burned up some homemade videos onto DVD as DVD-Video.
They are OK. Works on standalone.

Try using DVD Decrypter to make yourself a copy onto HDD. And then try playing it in VLC.
I had Lost in Space DVD that had problem: choppy video, and even transfered on HDD it played the same, until I passed it through decrypter, and everything played fine.
