How do you set file associations in VLC player ?

Only with the SO and "open with" and checking for all files.
In VLC the file association is broken and allways crash vlc when you click apply

The same happen in vlc 1.1.8 windows

When i go to the site in firefox the icon of rss come into view( the site have feeds: videonlan news and developer planet), when i make click in one of them the open with dialog box appear instead of firefox built in rss chooser

When i'm trying to change the file associations vlc crash when apply the changes, this only happen in the vlc program and not in the setup.

I'm with the same problem and workaround, i'm only enable to play videos with OpenGL(by software).
My videocard have Directx 9.0 acceleration by hardware, opengl is only by software.

This problem was related to the previous version, the workaround was copy severals plugins to a directory in the %path% enviroment
