Mac OSX converter for wmv to avi??

Is there a Mac OSX-based video format converter to convert Windows Media wmv-format video clips into avi (QuickTime) format? Preferably a simple, shareware download, rather than an expensive commercial program.

Good news re: capturing streams, questions about editing

Last May I asked how you could capture/download/save a streaming video to your hard drive. I was reminded that the very definiton of a "streaming" video means non-savable, and referred to possible screen-capture programs like SnapzPro, which I used for awhile with mixed results (it did cap...

Capturing Streaming Video??

OK this may be a tricky question or a very dumb one, but I'm kinda new to this stuff: Is there any way to capture or save a streaming video you're watching on your computer from a subscription website? I know you cannot directly save it onto your hard-disk, as that is the definition of a streamed vi...

What does "access_file: seeking too far" mean

Still trying to get a reply on this one. When I ty to open downloaded/saved-to disk movie-clips in VLC, they open fine if the clips are .avi, but if they are .wmv. I get an error message "access_file: seeking too far". What does this mean and is there a way around it?

Help using VLC to view downloaded clips of different formats

I'm on Mac OSX, and recently I've had success using VLC to access and view 25-30MB movies downloaded from an Internet entertainment site. The files from this site were in .avi format, with, I think, Divx code. When they first finished downloading, Apple QuickTime would open and try to read them, uns...

VLC-how to connect seperated video files, maybe sharpen imag

First, thanks to VLC developers, great player, working fine! A couple quick questions: I downloladed Divx movie clips from a site that has, say, a 10 minute video, but it's broken up into 4 or 5 segments, probably to keep the amount of megabyte download lower. So now I have a ten minute movie on my ...

how to properly save & open movie clips from internet

I'm new to this problem, so pardon if it's already been addressed elsewhere. I'm on a Mac, OS 10.3. In the past when I downloaded any movie clips off Intenet sites, a QuickTime window automatically opened, and there was the movie, ready to play. I'm now trying to download movie clips from a European...
