Re: Win ME and older

However perhaps you meant the main homepage which detects the OS automatically? Yes, I did. The warning I eventually found was hidden away on the 'other operating systems' page. To most people that means Linux and Mac. Win ME is still Windows and people who still use it (not necessarily by choice) ...

Win ME and older

Maybe you could put a warning on the download page for people using Win ME and older that 0.9.2 isn't going to work for them. That way they won't needlessly overwrite their working copy of 0.8.6.

Ubuntu 8.04 - DVD decryption

A friend recently installed Ubuntu 8.04 and added to it the version of VLC which is part of the Ubuntu distro. It works fine except it can't decrypt DVDs. I added to his system the <libdvdcss2_1.2.8-1_i386.deb> that I use on my Debian system. But that did not solve the problem. (libdvdcss2 works fin...

MP4, sound, sampling rate

I'm posting this information in the hope that it might be of interest to VLC developers. I have VLC 0.7.1 running on Windows ME with Direct X 8.1. I have downloaded various MP4 videos from the net and use VLC to play them. Everything works fine. More recently I have been experimenting with encoding ...

If you are using the Windows port of VLC and if the MOV files in question have QDM2 soundtracks, then read this thread:

This problem is a direct consequence of the way VLC synchronises the playing rate of a video/audio. I thought I would re-visit this thread. In general I find this problem to be only a very minor issue. But just recently I've been using VLC to listen to the ogg stream from University Radio Nottingha...

QDM2 audio codec

For the last couple of months I have been using VLC (was 0.7.0, is now 0.7.1) on a Windows ME system (with DirectX 8.1). According to the "Features" page on this site, the Windows port of VLC supports the QDM2 audio codec used in QuickTime (versions 4 and 5) movies. I find VLC will play mo...

It does on my PC. [VLC 0.7.1, Windows ME with DirectX 8.1] I find the DVD functionality to be quite stable and reliable.

I'm not sure I understand the logic of your question. Yes, VLC and WMV3 are not the best of chums What good is a "Mac codec" to Windows Media Player? Windows Media Player can play WMV3 Windows Media Player can also play AVI's provided it can find the codecs for the elemental streams (and t...

Extra transcode arguement

I've been reading the VLC user guide and the VideoLAN how to documentation and have seen the parameter string that can be supplied to transcode. For example the arguements to define video and audio codecs, bit rate and scale are all quite straightforward. I cannot find a parameter for specifying asp...

Direct Show input --> MPEG output --> aspect ratio

I have been using VLC 0.7.0 under Windows ME to accept "direct show" input (television) and display it on my laptop. This works perfectly. If I write the input stream to disc as either MPEG1 or MPEG2 this works very well. The files play back on VLC with good quality. However I have the imp...

OK, I'm up against the limits of my technical knowledge here, but I'm guessing that when I ask VLC to connnect to an MMS stream, it tries MMST first. If that does not work it moves on to MMS via HTTP. I'm also guessing that nobody uses MMSU any more. So by changing to MMSH I'm skipping the whole &qu...

For the record, I get exactly the same behaviour using VLC 0.7.0 under Windows ME.

I also think there is something suspect about all the "output date isn't PTS date" messages. At first I thought it was a streaming problem, but it happens on playback of files as well.

Yes, I did. If I have mms/wma2 input the dump option works correctly. If I have http/mp3 input the dump option does not generate a file (i.e. nothing is dumped, although the stream plays correctly).

streaming audio in --> out to file as MP3

I listen to a lot of internet radio. Every once in a while it's nice to make a quick recording of something special. I have VLC 0.7.0 installed on a Windows ME system (4.90.3000). VLC 0.7.0 will play radio stations streaming via mms with the wma2 codec. Furthermore, it can also export these streams ...

I hope you have noticed that there is a save playlist function in VLC 0.7.0 (at least there is in the Windows version I have installed) and it works very well.
