VLC does not decode all videos downloaded anymore - I have just downloaded a torrent of The Dark Knight from SUMO's site (Supposedly a DVDRIP) and the file is 716,724kb and it only plays for 20 seconds and tells you that the content is blocked and to play you need to download a "free" vlc ...
