Got it working. Used Appcleaner to remove all traces of VLC from my system then reinstalled and it working fine. Hope it helps anyone else with a similar problem.

Tried using the intel specific package (0.8.6i) and still no luck. Bounces in the dock a few times, then disappears.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

I've tried using VLC on my Macbook (Santa Rosa Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz, OS 10.5.4) with no success. I download the disc image and drag the VLC application to my applications folder without problems.
