DXVA2 in Windows XP...?

VLC 1.1 needs DXVA2 for GPU accelerated playback, and it says everywhere that DXVA2 is not available in Windows XP. I went through each video output module by restarting VLC with each one. Some modules do not play the media file at all ... and the ones that do play the media file all have the same problem ... they each need to have some other open program open on top of VLC for VLC to play the media file. Ugghhh...
