SOLVED!

SOLVED... These aren't containers after all... and when I was seeing what I thought were containers grow in size, it was because I had been increased screen resolutions of the source files used for screenshots. These are jpegs without extensions... and VLC just would overwrite the existing file givi...

Re: VLC Creates Containers That Are Not Real Folders.

I used a DIR command in the cmd function and it shows no files when there should be 4-5 jpg screenshots.

I can not move any files into these containers EXCEPT though the VLC screenshot function.

If I use VLC to open a folder... it doesn't show up on the list.

Re: VLC Creates Containers That Are Not Real Folders.

This might help. I uploaded one of these odd containers... to http://www8.zippyshare.com/v/kl1PYVmq/file.html It has some screenshots from the movie Snowden. I had to click on the download button 4 times to start the download. The first three clicks brought up ads. Feel free to run your own test at ...

Re: VLC Creates Containers That Are Not Real Folders.

Sorry for the delay in getting back... I just reproduced it again... and reliably so, with v2.2.4. Steps... I create a folder... link VLC to it for the screenshot function. I change the name of that existing folder... and obviously VLC still is instructed to place screenshots there. So when new scre...

Re: scrambled display

This is beyond me. VLC has been very stable with a minuscule number of bugs since I started using it over 8 years ago. All I can suggest is a clean reinstall. The only other thought is mp4 and avi are merely containers... what AV codecs are being used is another matter... which is why Media Info mig...

Re: Snapshot naming

32-bits vs 64-bits VLC maybe? Partial success. I uninstalled 2.2.4 64 bit yesterday and installed the 32 bit. It did fix the file naming problem. But it's still adding the green bar to the bottom of some screen shots. Since that's a separate problem... perhaps I should start a new thread on the top...

Re: How to record audio playing from audio card?

Thanks. By default, it's empty. As icing on the cake, I'd rather see some kind of VU meter to confirm that VLC is indeed recording something. Currently, it shows nothing, so if I'm in a rush, I have no way of checking I'm not just recording silence because I selected the wrong audio input. VLC is m...

Re: Playback stops at random. Read error: Permission denied

Another possibility is a file may not have downloaded completely. It may read as being the full size but some of my downloads are half blank... and VLC acts oddly. I've never looked at the error log. I also had problems with some .flv files downloaded using Video Cache View. If I played the online v...

Re: scrambled display

Is this a problem with just one video file? Maybe Media Info can tell you more about its technical specs

https://mediaarea.net/en-us/MediaInfo/Download

It's not vp9? webm files I get from some sources don't play well on VLC.

Re: Snapshot naming

I'm trying to take snapshot from some videos, but when I take them VLC names vlcsnap-error[number] (like, vlcsnap-error114.jpg) instead of using the timestamp; in settings the prefix is vlcsnap- and I can't understand why the error. I'm running VLC 2.2.1 on Windows 8.1. Looking back at my folder of...

Re: Playback stops at random. Read error: Permission denied

These videos.... are they perhaps bootleg movies? Blu-Ray has an additional copy protection hidden in the audiotrack called Cinavia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinavia. I know it's mandatory in all BR players... and it maybe be on DVDs as well. When a compressed movie is played on a thumbdrive thr...

Re: Snapshot naming

Here are the video specs from Media Info for the 720p files that create those green line. It's saying that these files are AVC but I don't believe there's any interframe compression. These video stream alone is a whopping 19Mbs Format : MPEG-4 Format profile : QuickTime Codec ID : qt 0000.02 (qt ) F...

Re: Snapshot naming

I think I solved that green line by deselecting "Use hardware YUV->RGB conversion" under Preferences > Video. Thanks for responding. It didn't work... or I should say I don't seem to have problems with mp4 files I've compressed. But I have problems with the original .mov video files shot ...

Re: Snapshot naming additional error...

I've been getting this naming error with v2.2.4 (64 bit) on Win10 64 bit.

But there's an additional error... the screenshots are LARGER than the original frame. So instead of being 720x1280 they are 738x1280 with those 18 extra pixels being a solid lime green bar.

VLC Creates Containers That Are Not Real Folders.

This is something that has happened to me before and I assume that a folder in Windows had become corrupted. But I just replicated the problem and it's connected with how VLC interacts with Windows. So this isn't trouble shooting... it's more of a Windows only bug. I save VLC snapshots in a folder c...

Re: Unified Video File Creates New VLC Windows For Each Scen

I should add that these files were joined via direct stream... they were NOT recoded into a different format. Another thing about about this file is that all the various encoders I've so far tried to encode them to XVID only encode the first segment. So there are some internal breaks between the ori...

Merged Video File Creates New VLC Windows For Each Scene

I'd been trying to find a program that can merge some old .mov video file from an old digital camera and I after about 12 tries I found a program that works. But when watching this file, everytime it reaches a new scene, a new VLC window is created. The Quicktime viewer doesn't do this. I can't find...

Re: PLEASE Include a GRAPHIC EQUALIZER

Looking for a cure for excessive pixelization I found my old v.8.6 was seriously out of date. I downloaded v1.0.0.0rc2 and I have to say I love it. I much prefer the controls at the bottom. But integrating the audio options in one place is a big improvement. Having easy access to a real graphic equa...

Re: PLEASE Include a GRAPHIC EQUALIZER

Thanks Artie... I don't understand why VLC hides a separate set of audio settings apart from the audio settings. It is not really hidden - is in the extended settings since it is not really commonplace to tweak the equalization settings, whereas volume etc. is. Also equalization can also be done vi...

Re: PLEASE Include a GRAPHIC EQUALIZER

Thanks Artie... I don't understand why VLC hides a separate set of audio settings apart from the audio settings. As for these damn presets... there is a certain amount of arrogance in making one person's... or even a committee's choice for listening to "jazz" or any other form of music... ...

PLEASE Include a GRAPHIC EQUALIZER

Yesterday I was trying to improve the voice clarity of a movie I was watching. It would have been easy except the company that makes my audiocard driver limits my options to various music types. About 20 years ago I believe it was Sharp that introduced an idiotic scheme for audio settings for audio ...
