12h later, pc cold off. Now complete failure of VLC - garbled all around. R & R w/dev daily build, no change in behavior (remains garbled). Will be emailing support directly.
-FYI, same playlist (continues to) play flawlessly in iTunes windows. & No VLC prob. on the mac side of this bootcamp.

I think my issue is the same or close to it. I don't use the video portion of VLC 2.0.7 at all, except for the toolbar. The playlist is a shortcut on my w8.1pre laptop's link toolbar.
