I tried converting the same wmv file to OGG using VLC on Ubuntu Linux and it failed the same way; VLC just quit after creating an empty .ogg file. So this has nothing to do with Vista or Windows. I think it is a problem in the OGG encoders within VLC.

Transcoding to MPEG with scale 0.5 works. Transcoding to MOV completes but QuickTime doesn't like the result - I may have chosen wrong codecs. (VLC can play it).

So the problem may be with OGG. Does VLC include its own copy of the OGG libraries?

Has anyone been able to transcode anything on Vista with 0.8.6f? Every time I try I get the windows "vlc.exe has stopped running" error box. I am trying to convert the sample video "bear.wmv" to Ogg/Theora/Vorbis format. I choose FILE output in the advanced stream/save settings, ...
