Re: Streaming Channels.conf playlist [solved]

You may have misunderstood my question; you can indeed change the playlist channels on the remote box via the http interface. This is my working scenario. 1. Create a channels.conf with dvbscan or scan 2. Set it as the default playlist under "preferences, playlist" 3. Set the default inter...

Streaming Channels.conf playlist

I have VLC 1.1.11 installed on an Ubuntu box and have configured a playlist from a channels.conf file. It works great and I can change to any channel In the playlist. I am also streaming the current channel of that box to other clients, which also works fine. Is there a way to stream the channels.co...

could use some capture configuration help

I use a Avermedia capture card with a conexant chip set on a Linux mint distro. This same card was used on Ubuntu Hardy which used an older version of vlc. I was easily able to set up a live capture, which worked every time (using composite port). Linux Mint uses version 9.0.4 of the player, and I h...

Re: Need command or option to keep player alive

Forgive me if this is common knowledge, but I still have not found a way to keep a player that is relaying a stream alive when the stream is temporarily broken. We basically are using vlc much like a windows media server that is getting a stream from a WM encoder. When the source stops, so does the ...

Transcoded file does not show time or duration

We are streaming via an Ubuntu 8.0.4 box, and have found for some unknown reason we cannot transcode directly to .wmv, but we can transcode to mpeg, and later use ffmpeg on the command line to convert the mpeg file to wmv. The problem I am having is when I play the archived file in VLC it does not s...

Need help setting variable bit rate

We are having trouble with just a few connections maxing out our bandwidth. When we used WMS there was a setting for a variable bit rate when congestion was a problem. I am not clear how to accomplish this with VLC. Any examples on how to get this to work with live and archived streams would be appr...

Re: need proper command syntax

OK.... I figured out the problem, but not sure how to fix it. This is from my Ubuntu box. Can a person just use apt-get to install what is missing? If so, what packages do I need? ffmpeg error: cannot find encoder MPEG Audio layer 1/2/3 stream_out_transcode error: cannot find encoder ((null)) main d...

Re: need proper command syntax

Do you think there is a difference between windows vlc and Linux vlc encoding? I worked for quite a while on an Ubuntu box trying to transcode a movie trailer to wmv, and couldn't get it to play with audio in a wmp. It worked the first time on a vista laptop, using the same trailer??????

need proper command syntax

I have been searching google and the forums for help transcoding to a .wmv output file, which wmp can play. This is discussed in the following post (http://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?t=33222), but not enough that I am able to get it to work. Can someone provide an example of how to transcode a...

brightness control

I am running BT848 capture card with a newer usb cam. VLC captures fine , but the video is extremely bright. I thought I saw a "bright" command on a config I ran across a while ago, but cannot find it today. What would I add to the following vlm-conf to adjust brightness, contrast, etc. ? ...

Live video on capture card problem

I am running vlc on an Ubuntu 1.7.10 box. When I capture live video it is displayed in black and white. I have attempted to adjust the color settings in "Advanced", but it does not respond to the changes. The extended gui is not working to change this either. Is it a setting I am missing, ...

On demand examples for wmp access

I have vod working according to the basic setup instructions.

I have a server full of wmv files, and would like to create vod instances for all of them that WMP can access, as well as VLC. Are there good docs on this, outside of the "basic" instruction for vod?

File location in Linux

Just installed vlc on an ubuntu box, and want to set up on demand streaming. I have set the following: vlc --ttl 12 -vvv --color -I telnet --rtsp-host 0.0.0.0:5554 new Test vod enabled setup Test input spike_slow.mpg I am not finding the docs that indicate where my *.mpg file should be stored?
