1.1.5 is screwier than a wooden watch!

It freezes, seizes, and crashes. It won't play files reliably. I start a file, and then hit stop, and it won't start again. The exit X does not work when this happens. I loaded the program the other night and it was screwy so I reloaded an earlier (1.1.1) version. I tried the new version again tonig...

Re: error opening file for writing

I had the same problem with 1.1.0. I accepted the option to uninstall the previous version leaving the preferences. When it was done it started giving me error messages on some of the .dll files that they could not be opened for writing. I chose "Ignore" for all messages. I then used the W...

Multiple file delete from playlist not there any more

One could highlight multiple files in the playlist and then hit the delete key on the keyboard on previous iterations of VLC. The latest iteration requires that each file be deleted, one at a time, using the right click>delete function from the mouse. Can we get this fixed in the next iteration? Tha...

Re: Santa hat icon?

Fer Christ's sake, get over it.

Oh, Jesus, I said "Christ". Sorry about that.

Jesus Christ! I did it again!

Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. What is wrong with me?

Oh God, I'm so insensitive.

Sorry!

As you were.

Re: .mkv files fail to open at all

Even with my Core Duo T2500 (2.0 GHz), both CPU cores used by vlc, with dedicated graphics, I can't run 1080p H264 .mkv container files smoothly.
Perhaps if I had a Cray ... :D

Re: .mkv files fail to open at all

You downloaded videos are HD H.264 (x264) files? In that case you cannot play them with your Celeron if you use VLC (not enough CPU power for that).
How do I interrogate the files to find that out?

Re: .mkv files fail to open at all

Okay, that worked ... somewhat. The video would stall while the audio continued unabated. This stalling -- showing a still picture without motion -- would last for 5-10 seconds and occurred several times during the presentation. The movie I was downloading has now finished and while the audio is per...

Re: .mkv files fail to open at all

In a classic WTF!!!!! moment, I find that the 4.3GB file is mysteriously truncated to 122MB. Might explain why this one doesn't play. I still don't hold out much hope that it will play when it completes which is underway as this is written. However ... I have tried other Matroska files and what happ...

.mkv files fail to open at all

Matroska! Wave off the future! BS! I have yet to have a single .mkv file EVER open with VLC. In fact, I have yet to have ANY program open a .mkv file. VLC says .mkv it is supported. VLC says there is a codec for .mkv files. Then why can't I get the things to open? Is there a secret mantra one needs ...

Every upgrade brings new surpeises

This time, 1.0.2, the ability to move tracks within the playlist has disappeared. It was there in 1.0.1 but is now gone. Example: You load a folder and the tracks are out of order -- 3,2,1 instead of 1,2,3 -- and you wish to have them play in order. Previously, you could left click and hold on the t...

VLC freezes when opening a folder for playing

If I try to open a folder the program freezes. I can use open file to open numerous files from the same folder and there is no problem. I first noticed this problem with vlc-0.9.6-win32.exe. The next two iterations have exhibited the same characteristic. I am using Win XP Home sp3. Anyone else havin...

Re: Cant play rar. files...

Go to http://www.zipgenius.com/ and download and install the free client. Then use that program to extract your .rar files. ZipGenius is freeware and works like a charm. I have used it for years. .rar files are not like .bin, .cue files which VLC can handle. .rar files are like .zip files and are fo...

Won't play Matroska (.mkv) files at all

When I open the .mkv files with VLC the window just sits there. The radio buttons appear as though something is there (pause / stop) but there is no control over the file and no sound or picture. The counter reads 0:00:00 / 0:00:00 yet the file is 1.127gB. I am using Windows XP sp3 with VLC 0.8.6i T...
