WMV streaming with artifacts and fading

Hi,
I use VLC 0.9.4 to stream using WMV2. The clients I used were both VLC and Windows Media Player 11.
I noticed a strong mosaic effect and the image whitens when I set the bitrate lower than 800kbps. What options do we have to choose/control the stream encoder?

thanks,

Re: How can VLC Streaming (sout) Multiple Bitrates?

Hi,
I did not try it but I would suggest you to give VLM a try and simply define two broadcast streams using the same source.

Re: replacing a VLM conf file dynamically

If you're using telnet interface, my way to do it would be like this:

Code: Select all

telnet localhost 4212 del all load new_file.vlm quit
Good luck!

Fixed: VLC 0.9.4 crashes when attempting to read from PVR

Ok, so it was all because of FFMPEG package. Given that I've used VLC-0.8.6i in the past and it was installed with yum, several ffmpeg leftovers prevented the new ffmpeg (compiled from sources) to deploy correctly. However, I saw no warning or anything from ffmpeg. So, I cleaned old FFMPEG and vlc-c...

Re: VLC 0.9.4 crashes when attempting to read from PVR

Is this an issue specific to version 0.9.x? Anyone here is using it for streaming from IVTV cards?
I saw that LIVNA did not upgrade their packages VLC-0.9 (there are still at 0.8.6i).
Many thanks,

Re: VLC 0.9.4 crashes when attempting to read from PVR

Yes, it works very nice. The capture works well.

Maybe it's important to mention that everything works without any issue with 0.8.6i. My problem is the bug that makes the stream to ignore the bitrate while transcoding. According to trac, it's been fixed in 0.9.x....

Re: VLC 0.9.4 crashes when attempting to read from PVR

I think it`s not related to that: I made that user the device owner but the problem is still there.
Many thanks for any suggestion,

VLC 0.9.x with Fedora 9

Hi,
Here is a quick question: anyone succeeded to make VLC-0.9.x working with PVR devices in Fedora 9?
If so, please post your configure options, and please mention whether you did stream from IVTV card using VLM.
Any other comment or suggestion will be highly appreciated.

Many thanks,

Re: VLC 0.9.4 crashes when attempting to read from PVR

Is it possible that this issue is related to access rights? I.e. should the current user be the owner of video devices?
Thanks,

Re: VLC 0.9.4 crashes when attempting to read from PVR

Merci pour ton aide J-B! Maybe it's worthy to mention that I am running on Fedora 9. So, I launched VLC for VLM: ./vlc -I telnet -vvv and then I added spaces before colons: [stream@feed1 ~]$ telnet localhost 4212 Trying 127.0.0.1... Connected to localhost. Escape character is '^]'. Re: WMV and bitrate limit

Ok, so here is the conclusion: it really was a bug in VLC-0.8.6i which is the version that I currently use, given that LIVNA did not issue yet a 0.9.x version...
For those who have the same issue it's important to mention that this bug was fixed. Here are the details.

Re: vlc trying to display while using --sout?

Is it playing the pictures in text mode? If so, try to (re) ./configure with --disable-caca then recompile and it should work.
I hope this helps,

Re: WMV and bitrate limit

Meanwhile I ran some tests using Windows Media Encoder on Windows and I saw that their stream is correct, i.e. if it's configured at 330kbps, and I watch the stream with VLC then the streams statistics will not show a bigger value than 330 kb/s... Here are some other questions/thoughts: -Can anyone ...

Re: WMV and bitrate limit

Hi again, In the meantime, I tried other vcodecs (WMV3,MP4,DIV3,MPEG-1...) but all of them have the very same issue: the stream is pushed way too fast which makes it usable inside local networks only... Even huge caching on client side does help very much when streaming on Internet. Is there a way t...

WMV and bitrate limit

Hello, I noticed that I cannot really limit the stream bitrate when encoding in WMV 1 & 2. Here is my VLM setting: setup ch1 output #transcode{vcodec=WMV2,vb=100,scale=1,acodec=mp3,ab=96,channels=2,deinterlace}:std{access=mmsh,mux=asfh,dst=:9080} When watching the stream statistics in VLC client...

Re: Buffering in WMP

... actually I took a second look and the buffering is alright with mmsh/asf but there is no sound.
WMP is saying "seeing" the audio stream but cannot play it. VLC, as a client, plays the stream correctly.
Anyone can figure out what happens?
Thanks,

Re: n00b question

Hi jdw, I am not an expert, but it looks like you found what you were looking for. VLC is able to stream DVD (MPEG2) content over the network. Unless your network player is limited to a proprietary format, I think you should be able to do the job using VLC for streaming. Briefly, you need to figure ...
