I've the same problem. I'm also using Ubuntu 7.04, kernel 2.6.20, but as the sounddevice a nvidia soundstorm (nforce2).

In the file i've uploaded on your server months ago you can see this behavior.

Could you upload them again to ftp://streams.videolan.org/incoming ?
The oldest file is from 01.02.2005

Sorry, i think it's annoying to be compared with mplayer, but why does mplayer can?

I've uploaded a sample stream file (streamdev-cvs (vdr streaming-plugin), pes, no audio).
