Thank you for the link to the Audacity wiki which explains the license situation in more detail. Would be nice if VLC can have a similar solution as Audacity which means to integrate the support in the source code and include a manual how to build the executable together with the Steinberg SDK. I would love to see ASIO support in VLC, too. Or at least a tutorial how to built portaudio with ASIO.

Foobar has it and there is a sourceforge project adding ASIO to Windows Media Player, so maybe there is a way to integrate it into a freeware player.

If I understand this right, VLC (at least the portaudio component) of it can be compiled/built i a way to support ASIO output (which I would appreciate a lot). The only reason for not incorporating it into the official release is a license issue for ASIO. But the mentioned sourceforge project for ad...

Hi,

an option which mixes the .1 LFE channel into the two front channels when listening to 5.1 sound on 5 speakers (no subwoofers) would be very nice to have.
