I would agree, but mplayer can play it just fine -- what gives? Is this a question of the ogg file header/footer/whatever data not being parsed properly, or is mplayer having to do some tricky stuff?

The following ogg file, generated from a PNG sequence using ffmpeg wont play under VLC, though it works just fine in mplayer.
