I can't see how the registry can create problems for VLC and there's definitely not a problem with the file format since the standalone player can play all the videostreams the plugin fails to play.

I have used the VLC plugin for playback of audio and video content in Firefox for quite some time now. I can't say it had worked well. It tends to hang with a black screen showing the message "Waiting for video" and when it does work there are no playback controls such as the progress slid...

Just keep in mind that this has exposed a flaw in VLC player. It could be improved to be better with handling corrupt mp3s.

ffmpeg is a family or package of different codecs. If it were fully implemented, VLC should be able to use all of them which it is obviously not since it is unable to use the ffvc1 (or "FFmpeg M$ WVC1" if you will) codec.
