Did you try resetting the preferences ?

It's not decoded by the GPU. And it doesn't extra copies because of "plane 0 not aligned: disabling direct rendering" so it's extra slow. I assume that's on a very old machine. Otherwise MPEG-2 in the CPU is mostly fine. Also the source doesn't set the MPEG profile so hardware decoding can...

Strange, there is no transcoding of the video. So it's basically sending the data from the disc (the audio is transcoded but it's less CPU intensive).

It's actually fixed in 4.0

This seems like a P010 (10 bits) display issue from the driver. Can you try to update your drivers ? In the past there were similar issues with AMD cards but they fixed the drivers.

If it doesn't work can you share a part of the file ? Just the few first seconds with the issue will be enough.

For some odd reasons it can't convert from RGB24 to I420. Do you have a sample you can share ?

This could be a copy protection issue for which we can't do much.

The server doesn't seem to accept connections on the usual ports.

It's not possible to select which codec is handled by what decoder.

You can try to disable the OSD. You won't see when you play/pause or the volume change.

"So it's not in software" -> "So it is in software". It's is the CPU decoding, but it's too slow for such a large video.

The problem is that the GPU can't decode H264 in 4K. So it falls back to software. And the CPU is too slow to decode it in real time. So only the first frame is displayed.

The stutter with 4K files can be resolved by forcing ffmpeg to use 1 thread (in advanced properties). The CPU at 40% seems a bad sign that hardware acceleration is not used though.

Can you try with 3.0.4 ? And if the problem still exist open an issue on [url=https://trac.videolan.org/vlc/]Trac[/ulr] for each problem.

I have a control during playback: play/pause. With 2.2 there's extra back/forward buttons. Could you open an issue on Trac ?

You're trying to play 4K HEVC, but your GPU cannot decode it. So it's not in software. Which is pretty much impossible in realtime. That's why you see only black, no frame is ever decoded in time to be displayed.

Can you post some verbose logs to see what's going on ? There's a chance a different vout is used or a different codec between the files and a new vout is created from scratch.

Can you post some verbose logs ? It should say why it's stopping.

The logs mention "qt4" which is in older VLC versions. You should use VLC 3.0 and see if it was fixed.

Do you have an example URL ? It seems like the files it points to are not properly encoded.
