If you're using Windows 10 you should not force the vout to Direct3D9 and also enable hardware decoding (Auto or D3D11VA).

The logs lack the beginning of the playback so it's hard to tell what's going on.

Also the iPhone X doesn't record to VP9 as far as I know.

Otherwise provide somes logs (Tools > Message set verbosity to 2)

It seems the option is indeed gone. I don't see it greyed on my side. It's just not there.

We do support AC-3. Maybe it's connected through HDMI and trying to decode through that.

`fpcm` sounds like floating point PCM. We certainly can support that. For the rest, I guess we'll never know.

On Windows the messages are sent through OutputDebugMessage so you should be able to receive them in a debugger (or a standalone app which name I forgot).

Can you upload your AVI file somewhere so we can test in the same conditions ?

We are not going to fix issues in 2.2 now that 3.0 is out. So if you want anything fixed it has to be bugs in 3.0.

You're using it under Windows 8.1 which doesn't support 10 bits rendering (apparently). Fallback to 8 bits has been added to the latest 3.0.2 nightly build.

The current build is 3.0.1 and you may try 3.0.2 nightly builds which also have lots of fixes.

Maybe we detect we can "passthrough" Dolby since you have ` Dolby Atmos for headphoens installed and enabled.` ?

It seems Windows 8.1 doesn't support 10 bits swapchains (that's the only thing different at this stage compared to the 8 bit HEVC that works). We should probably fallback to 8 bits in that case.

You should provide some logs of the formats that don't work. It should say why it's not working.

I cannot reproduce this issue with 3.0.1 or 3.0.2.

It looks like you installed VLC 3.0 on top of VLC 2.2. You have to uninstall 2.2 before installing 3.0.

It does look like a problem in the original file. So we need a sample file.

The HDR tone mapping on 3.0.2 should fix some of the issues.

Also it seems your GPU can't decode HEVC 10 bits. So it falls back to software decoding, just like with VLC 2.2.

If you think your GPU is supposed to do that, it may mean your drivers our out of date.
