I was able to stream from QT Broadcaster to VLC too. I had to write a SDP file manually.

I use VLC for transcoding and recording MP4 (mp4a+aac) files from a DVB-T source. Those files are good and can be viewed with any player, including QuickTime Player. Hmm yes, this could be easily done with some kind of Perl script that downloads up-to-date network topology from a website and then generates local VLC command line choosing to either play or to play and rebroadcast to its child nodes.
