Re: Can't download rtsp/mov stream?

I don't know if I fully understand, but when I try this from the command line: vlc rtsp://mp4streams.omroep.nl/ceres/vpro/rest/2009/VPRO_1135198/bb.20091018.mov :demux=dump :demuxdump-file=test.mov VLC starts playing the stream, and doesn't seem to create "test.mov" or download anything. I...

Re: Can't download rtsp/mov stream?

Oh, btw - I'm talking about the Windows version here (VLC 1.0.3) but in case this is a general problem, perhaps it applies on other platforms as well?

Can't download rtsp/mov stream?

I'm trying to download this stream: rtsp://mp4streams.omroep.nl/ceres/vpro/rest/2009/VPRO_1135198/bb.20091018.mov But the .mov file I'm getting is pretty messed up: the movie is jumping (as if I'm rapidly feedin...

Re: Can't seek (forward nor backward) with this movie!?

VLC doesn't keep earlier played stuff in memory. So once VLC has passed the certain spot, you have to decode the earlier part again if you want to see it. No, I understand, I guess that wouldn't be even possible for very large movies. But possibly it may remember some 'key' points, i.e. not entire ...

Re: Can't seek (forward nor backward) with this movie!?

Tnx for your replies. Video File is missing length info. I don't know much about video file formats, I would have thought that information was mandatory for a movie. But if the length is unknown, how does VLC know when to stop playing? You might want to try remux the file. It should hopefully fix th...

Can't seek (forward nor backward) with this movie!?

When I play this movie with VLC: http://thejuggalo.co.cc/temp/test.zip (26 MB, contains a .asf file) I can't seek forward or backward! Very strange, I do see the seekbar, when I click on it or drag the position marker, it wais for a fraction of a sec, and then continues where it was..? Can't even se...

Re: list of notable shortcomings.

I would like to request that the devs not spend a single precious second of the one and only lives they'll ever live attempting to improve VLC's performance on that horrible monstrosity Vista. Why not? Whether you like it or not (I don't), it will most likely become one of the -if not THE- largest ...

Re: Subtitle controls suck

VLC is a computer media-player; most of what it plays, by definition, will probably be "ripped" video files, not inserted DVDs. Rips, unless made incompetently, strip black bars out of widescreen video. How do you mean 'strip out of', as far as I know hardly ANY video (neither widescreen ...

Re: VLC really needs custom Pan-scan!

I like this, and would suggest that it also enable vertical scaling as well, in order to permit better screen utilization when viewing 4x3 video on 16x9 monitors. Yep indeed, my example was horizontal but it's all the same actually: no pan scan (the default) should be a 'best fit' of the whole movi...

Re: Make seek bar clickable

One more suggestion: is it possible to add some shortcut keys to make small forward / backwards skips? For example, the cursor left + right keys to jump back or forward 5 sec in the movie. It'd really be a quite useful feature.

Re: Subtitle controls suck

1. You are correct. Any chance of this being improved? 3. You can drag and drop subtitles to VLC. Tnx, never knew this! One more point while I'm at it: 4. The font size in pixels seems kinda odd: the text becomes larger if I maximize the window. Isn't a font size in pixels supposed to be, well, the...

Make seek bar clickable

When you click on the seekbar, it seems to skip forwards or backwards through the movie, in steps of one tenth of the movie towards (or beyond) the cursor, at least on Windows. Here's what I mean: http://img299.imageshack.us/img299/3880/seekqd5.gif This is pretty inconvenient, why not instead simply...

Subtitle controls suck

1. Changing settings: is it me, or are changes to subtitle settings not used until the next time you open a movie + subtitles? Can't changes just be applied *instantly*? 2. Positioning: that 'force subtitle position' is pretty damn unfriendly. How about setting a percentage, and a combobox for relat...

VLC really needs custom Pan-scan!

Most displays have an aspect ratio of 4:3 or 16:10. When watching a movie with an aspect ratio of 2.35, it will only take about 50% of the vertical space. In most other players you can zoom in a little bit (a custom amount), partially trimming off some content at the left and right side, so that a l...
