Re: Bookmarks or Favorites for frequently-played URLs?

First, make sure the Media Library is enabled. Go to Settings --> click Show All at bottom left --> select Playlist in left menu --> check Use media library --> click Save. Then in your VLC window where you see Playlist in the left column, you should now see Media Library under Playlist. Select Medi...

Re: VLC V2.2.1, no icon on desktop

VLC is a drag and drop install like many Mac applications. Opening the DMG does not automatically create or install anything. It simply mounts a disk just like if you opened a dvd or connected a hard drive. You then drag the VLC icon onto the provided Applications Folder alias or directly to the App...

Re: OSD for volume

When I use the hotkeys I also get the text "Volume 80%" in the upper right corner very similar to the screenshot above. I think you just have to use the hotkeys to see anything.

Re: have to install every time i restart mac

Make sure that you're not running VLC off the mounted disk image (.dmg) and you have dragged the VLC icon from there to your Applications folder and then run from there and/or drag the Application icon from there to your Dock.

Re: stuck in random playback

You may be misunderstanding how the menu works. You mention switching back to NEXT, but the Next menu item just jumps to the next track. If RANDOM if checked in the menu, you need to select RANDOM again to uncheck it or toggle Command-Z.

That's the top of the window. The menubar is at the top of the screen / display next to the apple icon. It has Apple Icon, VLC, File, Edit, View, Playback, Audio, Video, Subtitles, Window, Help.

If you're using Safari, maybe Safari's Preferences --> General --> deselect Open "safe" files after downloading.

Re: .dmg image on desktop

It's really not that hard. Not sure what you're doing. When you saw the App icon with papers and a line through it, that was indicating that it could not find the original app. Basically it was already linked to an unmounted DMG at that point so dragging that to the dock wouldn't get you anywhere, i...

Re: .dmg image on desktop

1. Remove the VLC icon from your dock either by dragging it off the dock or right-click the VLC icon on the dock and select Remove from Dock. 2. Go to your Applications folder and find the VLC icon. If the VLC icon has an Arrow on it, that's an indicator that it's an alias or Shortcut in Windows ter...

Re: .dmg image on desktop

However, when I installed VLC 2.2.1 on a 2010 Mac Mini 2.66 with Snow Leopard 10.6.8 (which seems to work by the way, unlike one thread that said it won't work unless you're using a 64-bit Mac),
Your Mac Mini 2010 is a 64-bit Intel Core 2 Duo. Older Intel Core Duos are 32-bit.

VLC 2.2.1 is 64-bit only so if you have a 32-bit Mac, you'll need 2.0.10.

Try pressing the "O" (Ohh) key until it's set to "Scaled to screen" to see if that works.

In Preferences -> Interface Check "Show video within the main window" and Save. Then click the "Show/Hide Playlist" button at the bottom left of the window next to the stop button. Now when you open videos it should play in one window without the playlist. Note, that if your vide...

If you want deinterlace always On, that set it to On, not Auto. Auto should attempt to detect when deinterlacing is necessary, but may not always detect I suppose.

That effect can be seen on very poorly encoded videos. It cleans up when it reaches a keyframe. Assuming that the video looks fine for others, maybe check Preferences -> Show All -> Input / Codecs -> Video Codecs -> FFMpeg and see if "Skip the loop filter for H.264 decoding" is set to &quo...

I believe it's partially for a smaller initial download audience just in case there's a last minute unexpected issue that can be resolved before it's pushed out to everyone. It may also be for limiting the download traffic on the servers that results from everyone auto-updating on the same day can c...

For resume, open your preferences and on the Interface section, find "Continue Playback" and see whether it's set to "Ask, Always, Never".

The Addons Manager loads for me although there's only about 7 options.

I would actually recommend not checking "use native fullscreen mode", especially if you want less or smoother animation. You'll need to restart VLC afterward for the change to take effect.
