Re: MKV, multiple audio tracks simultaneously?

Now I got two MKV files which both lack Speech track and that problem only exists when playing with VLC. It seems that VLC doesn't handle audio tracks correctly? MKV, multiple audio tracks simultaneously?

Hi. I have MKV file where is separate sound effect track and separate audio (speech) track. I can't get VLC to play it correctly. I only get sound effect track without speech. For some reason I can't even select speech or effect track. Now VLC allows only effect track to be played. Has anyone encoun...

Re: H.264 vlc multicore multithreading performance 1.0 pre

Not only a hardware issue. VLC 1.0.0 is still having some problems with some files. Ok good to know. I have encountered not problems but performance issues with tasks when all cores access main memory very agressively. I'm taking about files with more than 4 gigabytes / hour and scenes with very mu...

H.264 vlc multicore multithreading performance 1.0 pre

Problem solved. I updated to VLC 1.0 prerelease, and i works perfectly with H.264 files.

Only problems are high bitrate files, which do take up whole system memory bandwidth with Q6600 even core loads are managable. But that's hardware issue, as far as I know.

Re: Video tearing up, Ubuntu 64 bit, Nvidia 8500gt

Just reporting that I updated to Jaunty and no change, Nvidia driver 180.44 and VLC 0.9.4 and still tearing on secondary screen is major issue. (Ok it depends if it's a problem or not, you'll get used to it.) But it's bit annoying still when you have invested thousands of euros on hardware and softw...

Image Scaling, resize method being used?

I have to update this post.

With new VLC you can find Image Scaling settings from Video, Filters, swscaling. And select the last one. There is clear difference compared to first ones.

Re: Not quite enough...

Those settings are barely adequate for ~4 Gbytes / 1.5 hour rips. Maybe you will run into harddrive bandwidth problems too... Most probably not. Harddrives easily transfer 80-100 megabytes / second. 4 Gigabytes / 1.5 hours means only 740 kilobytes / second. Which is even streamable over internet co...

Re: Subtitle controls suck

Subsequently, all that's needed now is for new versions of VLC to position subtitles automatically from the bottom of the screen by default (rather than bottom of the video frame by default). I Whoa! Excellent, that's the only reason why I have been really missing Windows video players. (And anothe...

Re: Last.FM | Scrobbler support?

It would be way cool, if it would also support Last.fm controls and not only scrobbling.

It's so easy to wish for more. ;) Then I could get rid of my last.fm player on Windows & Linux.

Although on other hand, I also hate bloat ware and adding too many (unnecessary?) features.

Re: How to specify which monitor for full screen

I had autodetection working with Gutsy Gibbon, but when I updated to Hardy Heron VLC full screen autodetect isn't working anymore. Now I have constantly to change preferences to get full screen video to be shown on correct display. It annoys me a lot.

Re: How to get better performance when playing HD H.264

Does anyone have experience about format conversion. I mean that I could convert h264 stuff to MPEG2 if no great quality loss is being experienced.

Unfortunately VLC's conversion options are very limited.

Re: Video tearing up, Ubuntu 64 bit, Nvidia 8500gt

Hi, I have the same issue with an nvidia 6200 on ubuntu 64 bit. I'm going out to an LCD display. I have exactly same problem with tv (display 2) and LCD (display 1) and resolutions 1600x1200 and 800x600. And with VLC and Flash. So that is why I think that it's clearly not VLC's fault. If I drop v-s...

Re: Video frame tearing @ Ubuntu 64 bit 7.10, Nvidia 8500gt

I would like to report some tearing without any effects, using Xvideo with vblank sync is enabled. But tearing doesn't happen too often. It seems like it might have something to do with thread scheduling or so. (I don't know true reason, this is just a guess). When computer is heavily loaded it hap...

Re: Video tearing up, Ubuntu 64 bit

Actually this isn't solved yet. It seems that even that sync is enabled it fails from time to time. Let's say that it's wrong for 2-5 seconds for every minute. It seems like sync offset would be off. I mean that the frame change place on screen isn't random. It moves up'n'down slowly and then disapp...

From my perspective, what good is encoding if you're unable to watch it? Yep. I have many times mentioned that even Q6600 processor is way too weak to allow Full HD H.264 decoding with VLC... With other products in Windows there aren't any problems. But with VLC Windows and Linux both fail when dec...

Re: Release vlc 0.8.7 now

I voted yes. Because 0.8.6d also has problems with MKV files and seems to crash pretty often. Also there are serious problems with playlists.
