Also, I asked elsewhere and one of the FFADO (formerly freebob) developers answered my question about Flash. Since there is no support for Alsa yet, you can't use a firewire device for Flash. If I may comment on this oldish thread, the above is not true exactly. ALSA itself includes a plugin module...
