Re: How to add subtitles to a transcoded file ?

To whoever may be interested : to hard-dub a movie file, get the moviefile.avi (or another video format) and the corresponding subtitles file moviefile.srt in the same folder, use ffmpegX (with extra installs), check the filters pane to enable subtitling and proceed.

Re: How to add subtitles to a transcoded file ?

I'm not sure about the record button being absent (it's there for me) http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/2686/how-to-copy-a-dvd-with-vlc-1.0/ These are snapshots from windows interface, I run a Mac and it looks quite different. if you can get it working right (playing right) in the GUI, you should be a...

Re: How to add subtitles to a transcoded file ?

theoretically if you instruct it to play subtitles, transcode, and save to file, it "might should" work Practically, if I could do it myself without help I would not ask. How do I "instruct" VLC do blend subtitles into the saved file ? Another option is the "record" bu...

Re: How to add subtitles to a transcoded file ?

Many thanks for this fast reply! What I would like is re-record the file so that the subtitles become part of the movie, not a separate file, and I can then change the whole into a home dvd unit (or Sony PS3) readable disk. I suppose some command-line transcode operation would do this blending, the ...

Set a picture for movie file display in Mac Finder

Hello! I would like to assign a picture to a movie file "preview". More precisely, i have some movies in .avi files, and I screen-captured the corresponding synopsis on internet movies sites. It would be nice to view this resumé simply by displaying the avi file in the Finder Coverflow win...

File size collapses to zero on opening file

Hello! I made an application driving VLC to capture video streams to files (using command lines, on Macintosh). This works fine, the resulting files are ok. But when I double-click the file (my application being closed, has nothing to do with this) , launching an instance of VLC to read the file, th...

Recording is OK with version 086i but not with 093

I made an app that sends command-line orders to VLC, asking for recording rtsp streams to disk. The syntax I use is something like this : ~VLC 'rtsp://theserveraddress/thestreamurl' --sout '#standard{mux=ts,access=file,dst=/Users/me/Movies/MyRecordFileName.ts}' This used to work fine for years with ...

Getting sizes without displaying

Hi! When I open a file with verbose=2, I can read from the result the data I need, for example : [00000347] main video output debug: window size: 768x576 For a resizing utility I am building, I would like to detect video size of a file without displaying anything, so I can set parameters for the tra...

Could you indicate a software to read the region of a DVD drive ?
Maybe VLC can extract this info ?
Is it possible to "edit" this parameter ?

Thanks!

Re: Syntax : -v, -vvv and --vout

Certainly not! Could you be a bit more precise : -vvv or -V defines the output stream for VLC -v 0|1|2 defines the verbosity level, which has nothing to do with VLC output This meaning I can put both -vvv and -v in one line, giving two different orders to VLC, without confusion ? Why not -vout ? Thi...

Syntax : -v, -vvv and --vout

Hello!

VLC is nice in giving numerous options and syntax rules, but it is not clear what they do.
Can somebody explain the differences in the various expressions one can use on a command line :
-v
-vvv
-vout
--vout
--vvv
and other combinations...

Re: Selecting part of an MPEG file

Start and stop-time could be embedded in the sout command, but preferably, just move them to the end of your command-line So VLC accepts different syntaxes, but what are the different effects one can expect ? Could you post different rightful variants of this command, embedded and not embedded, but...

Re: Does VLC have a command option for partial extract?

Thanks for yur help! you should read http://wiki.videolan.org/VLC_command-line_help I do read it, but it is quite elliptic... vlc.exe --start-time 1200 --stop-time 1260 input.avi vlc:quit OK, but sometimes the syntax seams to be --start-time 1200, sometimes --start-time=1200, and sometimes --start-t...
