I just upgraded to 1.1, and i no more have those things displayed on screen (indications of what i'm changing, in realtime, volume etc).
i haven't changed anything regarding this.

Great to hear that, I also switched back to 0.8.6 because of that - horrible - "gui".
Have to say that 0.8.6 also uses much less cpu, but it may be a matter of settings...

edit the config file with any text file, and change "skins2" to empty (at least on windows, it works))

Will be fixed for 1.0 and probably for 0.9.7

dont know about linux but in windows i just changed the line which tells vlc to use skins2 interface

Still, I don't understand why keyboard shortcut dont work anymore as soon as you use skins (they dont work either in minimal mode btw, using default skin)

It's an nForce 3 chipset so quite old, but yes, I have the latest drivers
(i think i didn't have to install anything (but the graphic drivers) when reformating with sp3, anyway i installed the 5.11 gart, memctl and smbus, it didn't help at all).
