m3u playlists?

Basic question: If I have an m3u playlist, I can open it with VLC and the first item will start playing If I click view>Playlist I will see a list of items and can choose the one I want Is there a way from the command line to open an m3u file with VLC, not start playing automatically, but merely pre...

Re: UDP multicast in VLC 2.1 ?

Cheers - I'll give that a go. In fact, the stream in question comes from a VLC offshoot - dvblast: http://www.videolan.org/projects/dvblast.html I initially used udp rather than rtp because it allowed me to differentiate between the cache applied to rtp and udp streams from a single instance of VLC ...

UDP multicast in VLC 2.1 ?

Hi, Not sure if this is a bug or just that the new VLC works differently: Previously, I could open a UDP SSM multicast stream using: udp://<unicast_address>@<multicast_address>:<multicast_port> In the latest stable release, I now get: Your input can't be opened: VLC is unable to open the MRL Your in...

Re: mpeg4 multicast via SDP in twoflower

Is there any information I could provide that would help remedy this? Happy to do anything I can, but fixing it myself is, unfortunately, beyond me :-)

Re: mpeg4 multicast via SDP in twoflower

Hi - forcing threads to 1 is one of the examples above - so no errors are thrown, but it gets as far as: main debug: Buffering 96% main debug: Buffering 100% main debug: Stream buffering done (1040 ms in 1005 ms) And then nothing more - no errors, but no video either. However, in both cases (threads...

mpeg4 multicast via SDP in twoflower

Hi, Using VLC 1.17 (luggage) I can open a multicast mpeg4 part 2 stream, using an SDP of the form: v=0 m=video <multicast_port> RTP/AVP 96 c=IN <multicast address> a=rtpmap:96 MP4V-ES/90000 a=source-filter: incl IN IP4 <multicast address> <unicast address> This plays in 1.17 fine, with the debug out...

unrecognized command line parameter

Bit of an odd one here. I suspect I know the answer, but: Is there a way to tell older versions of VLC not to quit on an un-recognised command line parameter, but merely to ignore it? I ask because it would be useful to be able to use the same command line strings across various versions of VLC, but...

Re: SDP Mpeg4 in twoflower

They are? Sorry about that. Below are two log files, one from 1.1.7 (Luggage) that works fine, and one from the latest nightly, which seems to have the same problem as the lates stable. The same SDP (of the format given at the top of this thread) was passed to both. Luggage: main debug: adding item ...

Do you know if anything ever came of either of these issues, or do they not affect very many people? I have tried the latest nightly and the problem seems the same, though I am not sure the cause is... SDP Mpeg4 in twoflower

Hi, I can reliably join a multicast Mpeg4 part 2 stream in VLC 1.17 (Luggage) using an SDP file of the form: v=0 m=video <multicast_port> RTP/AVP 96 c=IN <multicast address> a=rtpmap:96 MP4V-ES/90000 a=source-filter: incl IN IP4 <multicast address> <unicast address> Loaded using the command line: vl...

Re: directX vs direct3D

We are using some rather ancient analogue video output graphics cards on the XP machine, and we know there are some bugs in the drivers, so this sounds quite possible. Whether or not direct3d works is presumably down to what the OS can instruct the graphics hardware to do, and thus as you say the dr...

Re: directX vs direct3D

...I notice that if I do not force an output module, then VLC chooses the "best" module to use. Does anyone know on what basis this choice is made? We have some XP machines, and if we force direct3D, the logs show a direct3D initialisation failure, and we get no video, but directX works fi...

Re: directX vs direct3D

Oh good - I had worried that since, as I understand it, hardware video overlays bypass the OS (hence why screenshots / vnc servers etc see those video streams as black squares), and since this is not a problem with direct3D, this indicated the OS was having to do more work. Seems to be working OK fo...

directX vs direct3D

Hi, I have a machine which spends all day displaying multiple video streams in multiple VLC windows. For each, using command line parameters, I can select either directX or direct3D. I am currently running VLC 1.17. The only outward difference I can see is that using directX uses overlays, wheras us...

Visualizations for audio only...?

Hello, Using command line VLC options, and pass them in when playiong an audio only filre, I can add an audio visualization. options syntax - basic question

Hello, Bit of an ofdd question, but also hopefully quite a basic one: I can pass in option to VLC as follows: MRL:port<space>:someoption=blah Is there any character other than space that can be used to separate the port from the options? Currently the space causes our parser a problem -though it sho...

DVB-T stream - audio jumping in 1.17?

Hi, I suspect the answer to the following query may be "upgrade to latest VLC" but here goes: I multicast DVB-T using DVlast. If I receive these streams using VLC 1.17 standalone (luggage) then all is fine If I receive these streams using vlcJ 1.1.5.1 and the same version of VLC, then vide...

Re: Can DVBlast generate sdp files for streams?

No, not that I am aware of. However, I have successfully initiated a stream in VLC that was initiated by dvblast. The SDP took the form: v=0 c=IN IP4 <multicast_address> m=video <multicast_port> RTP/AVP 33 a=rtpmap:33 MP2T/90000 a=source-filter: incl IN IP4 <multicast_address> <dvblast_server_ip>

Hi,

Probably a basic question, but I am trying to work out how to enable DVB subtitles from the command line in VLC

Re: Restreaming DVB-T multicast

That makes sense. I've been trying to get together a sensible command line string to achieve this, and so far have: cvlc --dvb-adapter=0 --live-caching=300 dvb-t://frequency=xxxxx:bandwidth=8 :sout= #transcode{vcodec=h264,vb=0,scale=0,acodec=none,scodec=dvbs,soverlay} :duplicate{dst=rt{dst=232.54.1....
