Full Screen crashes X

I'm using Ubuntu Feisty with XGL and GNOME. When I open a file in VLC, and then go into full screen mode, it plays okay, but as soon as you exit full screen or stop playing the file, it crashes X and the X server has to restart. Here's what I discovered: Using the browser in GNOME, when you access a file on an SMB share, the file path will be something like smb://server/share/file.avi VLC apparently doesn't know how to handle the smb:// path. Try reading the Ubuntu Guide

It's a great guide that will help you install VLC amongst other things. Of course not having internet access might be a problem.
