How to interpret udp-caching option?

Hello all, I am a bit confused about the meaning of udp-caching. Its default value is 300ms. Does it mean end-to-end delay? What exactly does udp-caching mean? If a packet arrives after 300ms when it has been sent out, will it be dropped by VLC? If it is the case, then how is the delay measured in c...

Re: What is rate of frame loss? How do I see it?

Hello, I am wondering how you did this. Used command line or GUI? I did not find anything like this in any menu item. Thanks for your help. ========================== Going to View and Statistics from the VLC interface we can see two numbers changing over time: Frame Loss Frame Read ================...

Is it possible to add a label for frame When streaming a fil

Hello all, I am using VideoLAN to stream a mpeg4 file ((File #1) to a client. However, even the file (File #2) saved by VLC at the server has fewer frames than the original (File #1) . When the client receives the file and saves it as a local file on the disk ((File #3) , it has even fewer frames th...

Re: Different number of frames between sender and receiver

Thanks for your response. It seems to be a bug. When I streamed out a file and stored it into another file on server's disk, the number of frames of these two files is still different. In this case I even set up file-caching=0. but some frames (5 out of 2000) are still lost, even locally (streaming ...

Question on the meaning of file-caching and udp-caching sett

Hello all, I am new to VLC streamer. I got confused about file-caching and udp-caching settings. From what I understand, file-caching is for the file-read buffer when VLC streams out a file to network, and udp-caching is for the receive-store buffer when VLC reads a stream from network. Am I right? ...

Different number of frames between sender and receiver

Hello all, I got a strange problem when I streamed a mpeg4 file (coded with ffmpeg from raw yuv format) for a server to a client. The client grabbed the stream as well as stored it into a file on the disk. I compared the tcpdump traces from the sender and receiver. I found no packet was lost, which ...

Re: How to control buffer size (or time) for VLC?

Thanks again.

Where am I supposed to find the detailed explanation about these parameters in the VLC documentation? I prefer the command line settings over the VLC GUI.

Thanks for your help.

How do I change these parameters? In the command line of VLC or the source code?

Thanks again.

How to control buffer size (or time) for VLC?

Hi there, I am setting up a streaming server and sending a mpeg4 stream to a VLC receiver. Is there any mechanism with which I can control the buffer management at the client side? In other words, how does the VLC (player) implement the buffering mechanism? I am working on wireless video. Your help ...
