Re: Converting files to DVD-playable

Oh, and if VLC can't, is there software that you'd recommend? It's only going to be used once, so ideally freeware or shareware would be great... and obviously the easier to use the better :)

Converting files to DVD-playable

Hi all, I have a few files (mov, avi, mpg and one vob) that I want to put onto a DVD so that it can be played on our DVD player (Samsung DVD-P147) at home. This is completely new territory for me, so I have a couple of questions: Can VLC do the conversion? If so, what file format should I aim for? W...

Merry Christmas.

Re: Broken AVI files

Hi Arite, thanks for the link! I have downloaded it and managed to go through the rebuild, but at the end it came up with an error: VirtualDub Error Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'XVID' (unknown) VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. DirectShow...

Broken AVI files

Hi there, I have an AVI file that I'd like to play, however when I open it, I get the following message: "AVI Index This AVI file is broken. Seeking will not work correctly. Do you want to try to repair it (this might take a long time)? Yes No Cancel" It does indeed take ages to repair, an...

Re: Converting DVD to MP3, and bookmarks

altglass, if I could find a Smiley with the /worship command, I'd use it :) I've finally managed to work out how to do the conversion, so thanks for that! I just have two last questions: 1) How can I identify which file is the correct one to use (see my previous post for details, which I was editing...

Re: Converting DVD to MP3, and bookmarks

Thanks altglass, would love to try this command line but it doesn't seem to want to launch vlc (see error message below). Weird, as I can run winword, calc, wmplayer etc just fine. Does it have anything to do with the way I've ran / installed VLC? I'm sure I'm close to it... Also, how do I work out ...

Re: Converting DVD to MP3, and bookmarks

I'm so confused and feel quite dumb :( I normally can work out software pretty well, but this is beyond me. I'm operating v0.8.5 on a Vista OS btw, if it makes a difference. So I tried doing it this way: - Set up the file output module settings - Played the DVD (it just displayed a list of chapters ...

Re: Converting DVD to MP3, and bookmarks

Thanks for your reply Funman, yes I only want to extract audio, to play on my iPod. I tried the following: - Played the DVD - Paused it where it was about to start the section I want to record - Went Settings >> Preferences >> Audio >> Output modules >> File - Indicated a path, and filename: extract...

Converting DVD to MP3, and bookmarks

Hi there, apologies if I'm not using the correct terminology or asking dumb questions - I'm not too familiar with multimedia stuff. I have a DVD, the type that can be viewed on TV, with different selections of chapters available. I have 2 unrelated questions: 1) I would like to convert two of these ...
