Thank you very much for that suggestion - it sounds as if it could be the right thing. However, and forgive my ignorance, where do I find the Delete Preferences for VLC?

This is not really a reply, but just to say that the same things happen to me here in southern France. I have a Powerbook G4 Version 10.4.10. VLC either quits and then gives the possibility of a report to Apple, or it goes silent and then the picture "freezes". Nothing seems to remedy it. ...
