Re: VLC saves an asf stream as mp4 by default

I tried the method you reported, but in that way I record the screen output, not the streams. So I must see and hear the video meanwhile and I can't see anything else, a big problem with adult videos :-P Furthermore if the output lags, the lag is recorded! Edit: changed the thread title, it's more g...

VLC saves streams in mp4 container by default

When I tried to save this stream: http://mediapolis.rai.it/relinker/relinkerServlet.htm?cont=1mB5LX0itIgeeqqEEqual with VLC, doing: Open network stream Stream Save to file without transcoding I noticed VLC used the mp4 container. I had to manually change the extension of the file to .asf at the Gene...

Re: Default Ubuntu player: VLC without patent issues?

Well, if you read this thread on Ubuntu forum, in particular this post, you can see patents are a problem and size is not, in particular now with the dvd format.

For what I know VLC is very popular and this is the only obstacle to have it as default player in Ubuntu and other Unix-like OSs.

Thank you, I was searching exactly this. I must say the VLC help is not very clear about this.

Re: theora performance

Ok, I changed it in the Transcode prefs and it seems a bit faster indeed. Anyway for what I know this means ffmpeg is applied to all codecs, not only to theora. How can I do this?

Re: Workaroun for - No time code processing for DVB-T .ts fi

In theory, can't VLC obtain current time from values of FPS?
Since ffplay works, can't VLC use ffmpeg code to calculate total / current time?

Re: theora performance

Well, now Theora is no more at experimental stage, and I must say VLC is very slow to play them too. ffmpeg's fault?

PS: to encode to theora:

Code: Select all

ffmpeg -i INPUT -f ogg -vcodec libtheora -acodec libvorbis -b 866000 -ab 80000 OUTPUT.ogv
For better results, raise -b parameter.

MPEG transport stream without current time position

I can't see current position in seconds from the beginning of a .TS file. This is such a file I recorded with my digital terrestrial TV decoder: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/33183126/0001.TS As you can see, VLC displays 0:00 all the time. I need to know current position in second since I want to cut thos...

Default Ubuntu player: VLC without patent issues?

I'm an Ubuntu user, and I see much people like me switch immediately from Totem to VLC. For what I know VLC is not the default multimedia player shipped in Ubuntu because of US patent issues with some codecs. Can't you create a reduced version of VLC without the support for those codecs, and add the...

[BUG?] No sound from DVD

A friend of mine can't hear the sounds from a DVD, or a video file on a DVD, with VLC. If he opens the DVD with WMP, there's no problem. I opened the DVDs with Gspot, and all video and sound codecs are ok. I must say I can hear the sound of the same DVDs on my PC, with the same Windows OS, the same ...

How to be updated

I have a simple question: it exists a newsletter that informs you when a stable VLC version is released?

Re: Where VLC settings are stored?

I mean a simple GUI shortcut that can change some options all together, to raise or lower the video/sound quality.

If someone is interested I updated my personal config files. Suggestions are welcome :)

Anyway I in my settings have minimized the use of the CPU. I think it could be useful a GUI command that change temporary the audio and video quality level settings.

I link my config file as example:

Where VLC settings are stored?

Hello all. I have a simple question: I want to copy the VLC settings from one computer to another. The settings are stored in a file or in the windows registry? And where exactly?
