Re: Torrant help

AVI is by definition compressed. Or, to be more precise: The codecs available for use with the AVI-container is all compression-codecs. Off course, the person making the AVI-file can choose to set the quality bitrate so high as to inflate the size of the video, but that "doesn't happen". T...

This solved my problem, and it was as you suggested, Open Shot PPA that broke my system: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1281367

Re: Ubuntu 9.04, VLC 1.0.2 stpped displaying video

But how can I have broken my ffmpeg-installation? WinFF, which needs ffmpeg to do anything but display a GUI, works perfect. At the moment, the only mediaplayer that works on that box is Gnome MPlayer. MPlayer alone is worthless I've found, as it'll only display video in original size or 16:9 format...

Ubuntu 9.04, VLC 1.0.2 stpped displaying video

Had VLC playing an .avi-file, with several lined up in the playlist. However, it played them randomly, so I closed VLC (as this has happened before, and a restrt of VLC usually does the trick). Upon restart, I went to a playlist I made with 0.9.9 (Playlists won't save with 1.0.0-1.0.2), right-clicke...

Re: Playback Slow/Choppy in Ubuntu 9.04?

I just found this out myself. A "revelation" you might say. I use a Radeon 3450 HD myself, streaming video over Gigabit LAN on a 2.4GHz 2GB RAM media-PC. I suddenly realised, out of the blue, that VLC is set to default video output, meaning X11/XVideo, but the card is capable of using Open...

Re: Help with Terratec Cinergy C PCI

I have managed to install it in Ubuntu 8.04. But does anyone know how to make a channel-list for VLC? I still don't know how to tune in to specific channels.

Help with Terratec Cinergy C PCI

How do I make this card (SAA7134 chipset I believe*) appear, so I can enjoy one more advantage of the best mediaplayer ever created? I run Ubuntu GNU/Linux 8.04 Hardy Heron LTS with 2.6.24.19-kernel. Other hardware: MSI P6NGM-FD Intel Core 2 Duo E4600 2.4GHz NEC AD7200S DVD-/+RW/RAM Western Digital ...

Re: Getting VLC to load files from SMB shares in Feisty Fawn

I apologize for the tardiness of my response. Thank you for pointing out to me that I am remiss in my knowledge of the GNU/Linux OS. I know of the man utility, I just didn't think far enough to think of it as a possibility. I'll give it a whirl and see what I turn up.

Getting VLC to load files from SMB shares in Feisty Fawn

I've had some trouble loading SMB-shared drives, but am now able to see them on Feisty. Problem is, I have all my videofiles on these external harddrives mounted on a computer in network. I can access these harddrives in Feisty and have full access. But I can't see them in VLC 0.8.6c, so I can't pla...

Re: Installing - no write permission

My point is: I wish to know why this happens.

I want to know why I am not allowed to use the installer for this version.

I will do the "dump-over" once I am back home, but that doesn't satisfy my curiosity.

Re: Installing - no write permission

Nope, no less than administrator rights. This happened before I installed Ubuntu and the NTFS-read and write driver for GNU/Linux, so it can't be that either. I have used VLC for about four different releases now, and no other installation has had this problem. As I said in the OP, I re-installed 0....

Please, I would like to benefit from the upgrade of VLC.

Installing - no write permission

I wanted to upgrade to 0.8.6c today and downloaded the installer, went to Add/Remove Programs, inserted the filename and off I went. It uninstalled my previous version (0.8.6.b) but I didn't check the checkbox to delete preferences and cache. Chose all installation options, except associating VLC wi...
