If I remember correctly, that was always the case with VLC timeline slider.
For now, you'll have to grab the slider witht your mouse, and then advance it as far as you want. Wherever you let go of mouse button it really does start playing from that position.

There's many posts/requests for this to be fixed. You will have to wait for the next release, we hope. Also, the matter of the extended gui and screen size having to be enabled each time you start VLC has been brought up here in a number of posts. For now, you can set the screensaver to engage later...

is it possible to always show the extended GUI whenever VLC opens? whenever i open a new file, i have to re-open the extended GUI. its not really a major issue or anything, im just curious if its possible to keep that setting. Absolutely it should've been implemented. This way everything has to be ...

Same here, it was fine up to version 0.8.0, now my screensaver comes up at its scheduled time. A bug or a dumb oversight ?
Also, what's up with Extended GUI not staying with the settings I put every time I start?
