Thanks for your comments - problem solved.

vlc:quit does work correctly with -I dummy in 081

FYI, the problem was due to an unexpected (for me) interaction with -I dummy.

Cheers, chile

Oh, yeah, doh ... I forgot to mention what happens when I tack vlc:quit on the end of a command line: vlc comes up very briefly (just a fraction of a second, it doesn't play the video) then quits with the message: [00000298] dummy demuxer: command `quit' So I guess the quit bit works ... but it's no...

Thanks for your fast response. > That's exactly what vlc:quit is for, a true program close. Well that's good news. But it doesn't seem to work for me. Perhaps I'm not queueing up the playlist correctly ... I'm just doing $ vlc -I dummy --video-on-top clip.mpg vlc:quit Do I need to do something to pu...

Hii all, I would like to start VLC, have it play a movie, then have it quit after it is done ... all from a command line (or shell script, or C-program ... actually, I'm currently doing fork/exec and reaping manually ;-). I've been through the docs and this forum, and there are some tantalizing poss...

Re. > 3) Could VLC be used to split a long movie into two shorter movies, for example to split it over two lower capacity dvds? If so, how, if not, does anyone know of any apps which run on macs or linux which can do this? There's a great program for that. It's called DVD2oneX. You can get the Mac v...

Thank you, zorglub. Re. 1, Fan noise is a continuing problem in general. Not in the screening room, where the equipment (2.5MHz G5DP) is in an AcoustiiLock cabinet, but everywhere else. Sigh. I've heard that one can do video-over-CAT5 ... if that works with quiet devices on the ends then perhaps I c...

Need advice, reality-check on VideoLAN distribution to HD...

Hi VideoLAN group, I've just emerged from my lurking. Let me thank everyone involved for some great sofftware and a hip community. I'm starting to make educational videos for chemistry and I am attempting something which may or may not be an appropriate use of VideoLAN ... I would value some advice ...
