I'll fix the playlist code for you if you need to. Or look in the modules/demux/playlist dir of vlc trunk to see how the playlist functions do similar things. Is this offer still open? I do use the playlist as my primary interface, and it's pretty broken when compiled against 0.8.6-- it compiles ok...
