Re: VLC 0.8.6 and SPDiF passthrough

I've tried several, and noted the same result. Playing with Mplayer and AC3 sound, the pitch seems different than if I play with Xine, Totem or VLC and selecting Stereo sound. I also got the core dump with the current nightly build of VLC playing different avi files encoded with the AC3 codec. I can...

Re: VLC 0.8.6 and SPDiF passthrough

Ok....I'm not entirely sure what you need. Ubuntu crash dumps are normally set to 0 bytes...so there's nothing for me to check. When I play the same video file in gmplayer I get the following results: AVI file format detected. [aviheader] Video stream found, -vid 0 [aviheader] Audio stream found, -a...

Re: VLC 0.8.6 and SPDiF passthrough

Wow - the latest nightly version for Gutsy is getting the same error message (unable to set stream sample size and word order: invalid argument) and actually crashes with a core dump.

I'll try compile the source tonight and see if that works any better.

Re: VLC 0.8.6 and SPDiF passthrough

Sorry guys, I haven't been home the last couple evenings. My experience with the nightly .90 from the repository was less-than-ideal, yet vlcuser01 had success when building from scratch. Perhaps there is simply something different between my system and that used to compile the repository version......

Re: VLC 0.8.6 and SPDiF passthrough

I don't have the output from the old version, but functionally this is the same result - it would detect that A52 was required, but the receiver wouldn't detect a signal, and no sound resulted. As with this version, switching to 'stereo' would work. I'm using onboard sound from a Shuttle SN25P, with...

Re: VLC 0.8.6 and SPDiF passthrough

Here's what I get when I startup the version installed from the Gutsy nightly repository. This is the output when I start the player and begin playing a video encoded with AC3. I have light from the SPDIF cable, but the receiver doesn't interpret an AC3 signal, and I get no sound. [00000001] main li...

Re: VLC 0.8.6 and SPDiF passthrough

Ah....update manager won't let you ignore the unsigned packages....but I can do it manually.

Now waiting for downloads from nightly.....it is very slow.....

Re: VLC 0.8.6 and SPDiF passthrough

I tried to install the latest nightly by adding the correct repository to my list (Gutsy Ubuntu). Unfortunately it keeps telling me that the packages can't be authenticated, and won't let me install them. Did I add the repository incorrectly?

Re: VLC 0.8.6 and SPDiF passthrough

I'll try the nightly version mentioned earlier in the Gutsy videolan repository. Looking forward to a VLC with full surround sound!

Are you having any luck Funman? Do you need any other verification from us?

Re: VLC 0.8.6 and SPDiF passthrough

The problem seems to occur anytime VLC tries to use A/52. It happens when I play a dvd disk, or an avi movie encoded with the AC3 codec for 5.1 surround.

Re: VLC 0.8.6 and SPDiF passthrough

If you read the ticket....there is an update....code is posted, and if it's determined to be a fix it will hopefully be available in the next version release.

Re: No S/PDIF output :(

If you do a search, there's another thread on this exact topic. It IS already a bug....it was reported many months ago, but the developers for VLC are volunteers, and so far nobody has volunteered to tackle it.

Re: VLC 0.8.6 and SPDiF passthrough

Update - there is an existing bug identified on the bug tracking system http://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/894

Downside....the ticket is 7 months old...nobody is assigned. Developers are volunteer, they work on problems that interest them, and at present, nobody is interested/able to address this.

Here's a bump - this is broken, and needs to be fixed. That link you provided....it in no way suggests the developers read the forums...it just asks that you provide full info when asking for help - in the forum, e-mail, or in submitting a bug. We need to submit a bug report for this....that is the ...

The Trac system seems to be rather complicated....we should submit this as an official bug. While it's hard to find someone using SP/DIF output to read a problems thread and confirm that things ARE working....there certainly seem to be a number of us who can confirm that it is NOT. On the Ubuntu for...

Exactly the same experience. If you temporarily choose the 'Stereo' audio device....I bet you get sound over your SP/DIF, but it won't include AC3. When it detects A/52....it doesn't work. I've run into a number of people with the same issue....different sound devices...even different kernels. No an...

I have the same problem as well. If you change the audio device (via the pulldown) to be stereo...it will send stereo out over your SPDIF - but I get no sound at all when it automatically detects AC3 and tries to use A/52. So far...nobody has had an answer. I'm using 0.8.6 and Ubuntu 7.04, kernel 2....
