I have asked it before, but still haven't got satisfying answers. 1) i have tried everything, but got no 5.1 sound from my Yamaha RX-V340RDS receiver. All i get is plain PCM stereo. I suppose it is a bug in vlc. Apple DVD player is only player that streams 5.1 from DVDs. I read that problems started...

i am checking this board very often because i hope to see some news on 5.1 sound on (i)mac g5. You were looking for mac developers. Is there chance that this issue will be handled soon?

There's nothing more that i want from this player.... just that i could enjoy 5.1 sound.

i found that i get sound in ac3 movies with my iMac G5 if i first unplug optical cable then start vlc with movie. at this time sound comes from internal speakers. then i plug optical back and sound comes from receiver. No 5.1 but still better than no sound.

I've got ~3Gb movie written on dvd with that codec that i'd like to see some day. At this moment there's no way you can see wmv3 coded video on mac. ( i think )

i also just got G5 1.8 SD. Same DVD region problem... have you tried optical output? Does it output 5.1 dolby surround in vlc? Or when playing dvds with dvd player? PS i tried one dvd in my mac and dvd player asked me to select region. then i just copied VIDEO_TS folder from dvd to HD and watched it...

i also get no audio from my audio receiver. as soon as ac3 encoded movie starts to play, receiver goes from 2 channel input to 0 channels.other movies play fine. also, if i choose postproccesing, picture hangs but audio plays still.
