Re: License and VLCKit (Source)

But I can't make our entire app's source available as there are other libraries we would license from other parties that are not source-distributable. Is this ok? The VLCKit represents a small part of the main app, so I am not really distributing a "modified version"... the VLCKit itself ...

Re: Trying to play DVD in VLC.

The problem is not really on the VLC side, but rather on Apple's side. For Mac DVD drives, it feels like they specifically chose brands whose makers have gone above and beyond the call of duty regarding region coding: VLC is often unable to overcome their particular locking. However, depending on th...

Re: Error when trying to play DVDs from other regions

i have never tried Apple DVD player with a unlocked drive to see if Apple has a software block in place or not i cant test it cause i dont have a unlocked drive. Like all proprietary DVD player programs that I know, it has. One needs one further program (Region X, http://xvi.rpc1.org ) to trick it ...

Re: Error when trying to play DVDs from other regions

I thought the great thing about the VLC player was that it could play other region discs in this sort of case or did I get that wrong? It generally can. Unfortunately, ever since the G4 Aluminium Powerbook, Apple has insisted on picking drives that go above and beyond the norm for region checking. ...

Re: VLC wont play on MacBook...need help!!!

the VLC works fine in download anything and want to watch it through there, but not with DVDs. But if my VLC is locked due to the region, then why wont it at least play that regions dvd?!?!?! Maybe your drive isn't actually set to a particular region yet. If I'm not mistaken, in order to play DVDs ...

Re: VLC for region free DVD watching

VLC is unable to overcome the region-locking firmware of the DVD drives found in recent Macs. You probably need to flash the existing firmware with a region-free version (see http://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=39930&p=126350#p126350 for more details), which requires you to know t...

Re: DVDs won't open and play

Folks, please search the forum before asking questions. This was answered millions of times before. NO, there is NO way to play DVDs from a different region than your drive is set to in case that your Mac is less than 3 years old. This is no bug in VLC and cannot be solved by us. It's due a differe...

Re: Can VLC play region 1 on region 2 locked Mac?

Re: Can VLC play region 1 on region 2 locked Mac?

I doubt that such a firmware exists for new drives
And yet someone came up recently with a patch for Matsushita's UJ-857 (frequently found in Macbooks these days) :D
But you're right aboyt the warranty, and obviously the OP would have to be warned about this.

Re: Can VLC play region 1 on region 2 locked Mac?

I'm sorry, but there is no chance to get this working again except by unlocking your MBP again by Apple Care Maybe you're too pessimistic... as I was saying, it really depends on the exact drive the OP has. For selected models, the firmware can be updated with an unofficial RPC1 patch, and after th...

Re: Can VLC play region 1 on region 2 locked Mac?

It depends on the actual hardware you're using... with some drives there's just no solution, unfortunately. What exact DVD drive do you have? Open the System Profiler and look into the ATA section (or USB or FireWire, if it's an external drive).
