Streaming in SuSE 10.2

I cant get streaming to work , even after reading various tutorials etc. I open any video file (DVD whatever) using the wizard and send to another PC using its IPaddress and port 1234, like 172.28.0.9:1234, and at the other end I try to open network stream. Nothing happens! It makes no difference be...

by the way, it might be better not to use the packman respository after all.
this is because the libmpeg2 file in packman seems to crash vlc whe you play DVDs
better use guru instead

Dimstar has pointed out that the libmpeg2 file on Packman repository is different from the one on Guru repository.

When I changed to the Guru version most of my PCs were fixed!
(just leaves one that still doesnt)

Thanks very much for that Dimstar
It sorted out two of my problem PCs!
How does it happen that two repositories have different version of the same file??

Anyway that just leaves one more (32b) that still doesnt work, so is there anything similar to look out for?

regards

looks like you are not downloading using the repository?
or maybe ypu have a half installed vlc from a previous attempt
or possibly there is a temporary fault at the respository

try uninstalling any vlc you may already have and trying again - after you add the repositories I mentioned

interestingly, I have now tested 3pcs, all with suse10.2, one of them (a Dell laptop) works fine with DVDs !

but the other (desktop)machines (one a 32 bit the other a 64 bit) both crash on DVDs

is this problem hardware specific?

go to - yast (root password needed) select - installation source select - add copy the address for the guru and videolan repositories, as well as any other you fancy from that list (- esp packman.unixheads.com/suse/10.2 - becuase that one will get rid of the old crippled xine you probably got in you...

I had this problem too.
I solved the libebml dependency problem by adding the guru repository to installation sources using yast

see http://en.opensuse.org/YaST_package_repository for details of reccommended repositories

I have the same problem
kaffeine/xine open DVDs ok and VLC opens video files ok , but DVDs just crash.

My vlc was downloaded from the videolan repository mentioned earlier in this thread.
Any ideas?

I had to add extra repositories to get VLC working.
Visit http://en.opensuse.org/YaST_package_repository to get a list of the recommneded ones - including videolan itself and also guru. I needed both.

to add them go to yast and add installation sources, copying the addresses from the website
