What about defining a 3s jump as really a 2.9s jump followed by a 0.1s playback? Is there any way to get VLC to do that?

AWSOME!!!
Now the last thing be a 'stop' marker. Ideally, each bookmark could have a start AND (optional) stop marker, so that any bm could play any pre-defined snippet of the media.

Gimme more, More, MORE ;)

When is v0.9 expected? BTW

jumping to location / playing a section

I know I can do short/long/etc. jumps forward and backwards, and it's a great feature - thank you! Can I also jump to a specific location? eg open a dialog, enter 1:13:02, and jump there on the timeline? What about setting markers for start/stop so I can play and replay a specific section (say, 3:02...

:?: You're describing how it works now, I suppose?

I want to pause my video at eg 1:00, do a very short jump forward, and have the (paused) image updated to that of the video at 1:03.

Would this require a major rewrite?

I think 2 different issues are being confused here: 1. detecting a new disc when it's inserted -> XP popup which says e.g. "Audio CD". I don't have VLC on the list of apps. I'll try and fix it thru tweakui. Unless I choose VLC in that list (when it's added), inserting a new CD would not af...

Again, audio and video files ARE correctly associated.

I don't want to know a file format. I want to know a DISC format.

I understand that, but what user intervention will perform such detection? I don't mean to detect when the media was inserted, but to only to find out what type it is, when prompted by the user. How about, say, a "detect media type" button on the "open disc" dialog? BTW, I have a...

Pause - Play - Pause is limited to the speed and accuracy of my pressing the keys or buttons.
I want to have a paused video and then a series of very short (or other length) jumps, seeing the display update with each jump.

OK, fair enough, no skip frames. How about an option in the preferences to update the display as soon as the marker position is modified?

What do you mean by now ? I run VLC 0.8.6a (wxWidgets). How am I notified of the detection? When I click File/Open Disc it gives me 4 options, none seem suggested. I'm not sure what you mean by doesn't do data. I'm talking about a disc with audio or video files. As for the autorun, that's a good ide...

auto-detect disc

Can VLC auto-detect the type of disc inserted? I want to be able to insert an unlabled CD I found at the bottom of my drawer or given to me by a (trusted) friend without knowing if it's an audio CD, VCD, DVD or data, and have VCD read it automatically.

skip frame or frames in paused video

Can I skip frames forward or backward? I'd like to be able to do this by any size jumps too, but when I jump forward or backwards in paused video, the screen doesn't update. I've tried this with a DVD and an mpeg video, and the result is the same. Is that how it works? Can I configure it to do so? I...

I have a similar problem to dcam with a mov file of NON-jpg formats. The media info says the codec is rpza. The video usually doesn't play at all, although a few times I thought I cought a glimpse it going super-fast all the way to the end (it's only 20secs so it's hard to catch). I download it to m...

I see there's lots of discussion about auto file associations. Whether there's an automatic tool to do it or a preferences tab or neither, why do we have to come to the FORUM to find this info? I've just spent a bunch of time searching the FAQ and KB, to no avail. Doesn't the solution (whatever it i...

media file names

Hi,

I've ripped a Chinese language CD and got its info from MusicBrainz, with filenames modifed to show artist/album name etc.
I get an error trying to load these files in VLC.
Is this a known problem? Can I get around it? Is it expected to be fixed in the future?

Thanx,
Nir
