Re: Transcoding to MP4 - No Audio

Thanks. I took a look at the ticket and everything written there is true. It may be worth adding that specifying various combinations of ab and samplerate will cause the avcodec encoder warning to go away - so it's not the 'presence' of the ab= parameter, but rather the specific values. But regardle...

Re: Transcoding to MP4 - No Audio

OK, I posted a short sample that I tested, and a bat file that I used to transcode it. File - P1000100.MOV ; bat file - P1000100-MP4-test.bat to download, go to ftp://ftp.sequoiahills.com, and login as videolan; password Vide0Lan (V, ide, 0, L, an) Please let me know when you've downloaded it and I'...

Re: Transcoding to MP4 - No Audio

Sure thing - I can upload it to wherever you want, or I can host it myself and provide you the ftp credentials (privately). Just let me know.

I'm currently working with a 100Meg file; I'll find a smaller sample that replicates the same issues.

Thanks!

Re: Transcoding to MP4 - No Audio

Actually, I'm using VLC to play back what it just created! I just tried QT, and it behaved 'the same'; that is, no audio, but if I move the position slider around, I hear bursts of off-key audio for a split second. So - I can use VLC to play the original movie I can use VLC to transcode to wmv no pr...

Re: Transcoding to MP4 - No Audio

MUCH closer ... ! I inserted the 'samplerate=44100" value as you suggested, and now, no errors. However, the Audio does not play when I play the output file in VLC. But if I move the position slider back and forth quickly (moving forward/backwards quickly in the movie) I CAN hear bits of the au...

Re: --file-logging doesn't work (WinXP)

I'm having similar difficulties, but I did find something of a workaround. First of all, the linked post above suggests: "vlc INPUT --file-logging --logfile file_log.txt" but aren't the rules on Windows that you must use the "--option=value" syntax, not "--option value"...

Re: Transcoding to MP4 - No Audio

I'm having the same problem as the original poster of this thread, which I found through extensive searching, so I presume it is better to post as a continuation of this thread. Windows vista business; VLC 0.9.8a. Source - several (quicktime movie from a Panasonic Lumix camera, avi movie from a cano...

Transcoded material has green 'squares' - missing key frame?

I've transcoded dozens of mpeg files to wmv format, using a variety of settings. They all seem to have a 'bunch of green' squares on the first frame or two, then it settles down to perfect video. Sample: http://www.sequoiahills.com/Linked/VideoLan/VLC-GreenStart.jpg (this example has more 'green squ...

Re: Video stops part way in quicktime playback, audio continues

Regarding this post: by feichth on Sun May 20, 2007 10:35 pm I have a Panasonic-Lumix FX01 making videos with Quick Time Motion JPEG format. With VLC V0.8.6b the video freezes after some seconds and the audio doesn't work. I get a lot of information in the logfile like this: ffmpeg warning: cannot d...

Zune player - rotated video

I converted an MPG file to play on a friend's Zune using the steps given in the wiki ( http://wiki.videolan.org/Play_on_Zune ). It played perfectly in Windows Media Player, but, she tells me the image is 'tall and narrow' - black bars on either side, with bodies tall and thin. Now, I know the Zune r...

I've now started using VLC on a number of movies, with different aspect ratios, and it's working perfectly with all of them (anamorphic 2.35:1, 16:9, 4:3, etc) and it's doing GREAT! So my hunch is, there is some value in the header of that perticular movie (49-up) that is wrong, and is 'throwing' VL...

I just tried this - Canvas width = 848; Canvas height = 0; video width =0; video height=0 (I'm using the settings/preferences gui, and zero is the default entry) Result: Core image visually unchanged - fat, short bodies. This has been an interesting exercise for me as it has exposed me to many aspects of the program. I remain unable, however, to correct the AR of the material during a transcode - no matter what settings I use, the output remains 'too wide' and the bodies are 'fat'. So far, my interpretation of the t...

Good news ... I finally figured out what was going wrong when using VLC to generate the m2v sample. When I buy a DVD these days, the first thing I do is dvd-decrypt it and then use PGC-Edit to modify the DVD such that it cuts straight to the main menu on insert, bypassing the intros, trailers, warni...

Thanks; I'll try your settings tonight and see what I can come up with. BTW VLC will not play this DVDShrink file. Before you posted your instructions, I already created and uploaded a VOB, here: http://www.sequoiahills.com/Linked/VideoLan/VTS_01_1.VOB which you should be able to right-click and 'save as' or similar. This was created using a feature of DVDShrink that I'd forgotten - the ability to select a sub-s...

Thanks. I've tried several times to upload the demuxed m2v for the chapter in question (700 Meg), but it keeps timing out. I could process it through DVD Shrink to make it smaller, or do many things in IFO Edit, PGCEdit, etc - but I'm scared of touching the headers too much. If you can suggest a too...

Thanks for your help. This is interesting ... I did as you suggested, setting 'width' to 720, height to round(720/1.78) = 416. The result reflects these properties (720x416) but still has the aspect ratio property of 2.37:1. Here is a 6 second snapshot, heavily compressed (vb=256, ab=64), just to sh...

If the aspect ratio is truly 2.37:1 selecting 16x9 or 16x10 to fill a wide screen monitor is incorrect, but considering you are saying that the people are short and fat suggests an incorrect flag in the header info... for this DVD. yes, once I set 'preferences'/'video'/(general video settings)/sour...

Cannot get correct aspect ratio with one DVD

Initially I tried to transcode a chapter from a DVD (49-Up, FWIW), but could not get the correct output aspect ratio. To simplify the problem, I found that I could replicate the problem just by playing the Chapter using VLC's 'Quick Open File...' menu item. The chapter starts playing at 64:27 (2.37:...

I can't really explain why, but I decided to try specifying 'height=' instead of 'width=' and that managed to stop the aspect ratio from getting totally crazy. height=214,croptop=2 produced an aspect ratio of 1.34:1 (good) However, not all 'height=' values worked; the following one produced equally ...

croptop filter giving strange results

Source is 720x480 ntsc mpeg2, captured from TV by a Hauppauge WinTV encoder card. File plays fine in a variety of players, including VLC. I transcode this to WMV using either of the following two commands, both work fine: :sout=#transcode{width=240,vcodec=WMV3,vb=192,scale=1,acodec=wma,ab=64,channel...
